Day Two of the Florida Get Down had one of the most action-packed days of basketball of the season. With 22 teams taking the floor, there’s no way I’ll be able to cover all of the talent with just one notebook. So, here are the standouts of Day 2 of the Florida Get Down, Part 2.

Bishop McLaughlin v. Central Pointe Christian Varsity Grey, 63-60 Bishop McLaughlin wins

[player_tooltip player_id="546182" first="Emanuel" last="Sharp"] - 2022, 6’4”, Bishop McLaughlin

This kid obviously has a great feel for the game, especially on the offensive end. A good bodied guard, Sharp is able to get shots up and have them fall. He can pull from almost anywhere behind the arc with high accuracy. Plus, his bigger build makes him hard to stop going downhill. He was automatic from distance in this game and will continue to be all season. He has tremendous confidence in his jumper. And showed out against a defensively sound Central Point Grey.

The Rock vs. PHS Academy, 83-67 The Rock wins

[player_tooltip player_id="1068616" first="Sasha" last="Letino"] - 2022, 6’9”, The Rock

I really like how Sasha plays. He’s a good rebounder and nice post finisher. He always seems to know where the ball is in the air and where to go to grab it, and underrated skill that resulted in some high level rebounding. He’s unafraid to go through contact and is confident enough to post up against guys that are a bit bigger than him, and at 6’9", there aren’t many high schoolers that are bigger than him. I like that. He scored two quick buckets to pick up momentum for his team in the second half and ended the game with 16 points.

[player_tooltip player_id="1055724" first="Ryan" last="Jones"] - 2024, 6’8”, The Rock

This is going to be one of those players that I look back on and say, “man I remember how good he was when he was a freshman” when he’s dominating at some D1 university. He’s big, strong, and skilled. He can shoot the ball and rebound like a pro. He had a very quiet 11 points in this game but showed out against post-graduate players that are on average about 5 years older than him. He’s got a bright future ahead of him and can only go up from here.

[player_tooltip player_id="818656" first="Kyle" last="Duke"] - 2021, 6’3”, The Rock

Duke is an amazing leader and long, skilled guard. He is great finisher and shoot free throws at a high rate, a good combination to have for a score first point guard. Duke’s guard bag is great, he’s good at breaking presses and has a tight handle, not a flashy one. Duke was great down the stretch and helped the Rock close out this game with a solid 13 points.

West Nassau v. Eastside, 70-59 Eastside wins

[player_tooltip player_id="527374" first="Deebo" last="Coleman"] - 2021, 6’6”, West Nassau

Coleman is one of Florida’s best players for a reason. He’s a lights out shooter with an offensive touch that is rivaled by very few players, not just in the state but in the country. However, his team is a bit one-sided on the offensive end of the ball. He had 26 in the first half, while the rest of his team had 2. He finished with 35 and kept his Warriors in it for as long as he could before the elite Eastside offense got a hold of his team.

[player_tooltip player_id="549002" first="Jarveil" last="Gainey"] - 2021, 6’3”, Eastside

Gainey is a good sized guard with a great handle and is the main engine of the Eastside offense. This game was a serious test for him, as he went up against [player_tooltip player_id="527374" first="Deebo" last="Coleman"], a top ranked guard and arguably the most skilled player Gainey and Eastside has faced this season. However, Gainey showed an ability to get to his spots and continue doing what he does best: shoot the basketball. He was money from the mid range and reminded us all that he is one of the most consistent players in the state.

[player_tooltip player_id="1068779" first="Omar" last="Brown"] - 2021, 6’, Eastside

The fact that Brown and Gainey are on the same team is criminal. Brown is one of the best mid-range jump shooters I’ve watched, with his teammate Jarvey Gainey being close behind. Brown was great against the Warriors and added another high-level offensive option outside of Gainey to spread [player_tooltip player_id="527374" first="Deebo" last="Coleman"] thin on defense. He was key in the victory and will be great for this Eastside team all year.
