For the past few years, Deep III has operated on the AAU scene with a number of under-the-radar types in the state and have gotten some great results in the victory column. Now with a player like Idaho State guard Robert Ford counted as an alumnus, program director P.J. Gilbert is hoping that he has another future D-I talent on his hands with this year’s group.

We caught up with Gilbert, who revealed his roster for 2021. Deep III looks to participate in upcoming events in Washington and Arizona.

[player_tooltip player_id="855940" first="Jude" last="Ashpole"] (2021 Gladstone) - Gilbert counts Ashpole as one of his leading men and a future riser in the Class of 2021 rankings. The 6-foot-4 wing/post is a smooth shooter from the outside and is tall and bulky enough to help out on the inside. Once also a football player, Ashpole is now focused on finding a college fit for hoops.

[player_tooltip player_id="964540" first="Landon" last="Thom"] (2022 Westside Christian) - Thom is an all-around combo guard who at 6-foot-2 is physically mature for his age. He does a little bit of everything well and should provide some scoring punch from the perimeter. Thom should be the leader of a very talented Westside Christian team this year.

JahAllah Van (2023 De La Salle North) - You likely haven’t heard of Van previously but he may be a guy you’ll need to get to know. The 6-foot point guard is super quick and Gilbert believes that the young sophomore is due for the type of rise that Ford had with Deep III his final year.

Tommy Tacha (2021 Gladstone) - When Van isn’t handling the ball Tacha will be at the point. The 6-foot-1 senior is a heady floor leader who can create and hit shots from the perimeter.

Brandon Wanlass (2021 Gladstone) - The third Gladstone senior on the squad, Wanlass will serve as Deep III’s knockdown shooter from the perimeter.

Syrus Sagiao (2020 Gresham) - Sagiao is playing as a prep year player and at 6-foot-5, will provide bulk and muscle down low.

Kyle Nagelspach (2020 Scappoose) - Another unsigned prep from last year, the 6-foot-3 forward will help out with his size but he’s also capable of spotting up for threes.

Larell Covington (2021 Newport) - Covington, who played previously at Toledo, is a 6-foot-1 athlete who excels at slashing to the hoop. Gilbert believes that he is a sleeper.

Karl Green (2022 Centennial) - Green is a multi-sport athlete as he also plays wide receiver for the Centennial football team. His contributions will mainly be on the defensive end with his motor.

Judah Smith (2021 David Douglas) - Smith, who stands 5-foot-7, will provide depth at the point.
