Jason Romans | Bishop Fenwick | 6’1” | Guard | 2022
Romans is a three-level scorer, an impressive facilitator, and an excellent defender. He has great court vision, makes quick decisions, whips passes to teammates for easy buckets, and always looks to push the ball ahead with the pass. He has a quick, compact jumper, hits from mid-range and three, and shoots off the catch and dribble, with great elevation. He has the ball on a string, attacks the basket with force, and initiates contact to get right to the cup. He moves his feet well on defense, rises for boards, and is constantly jumping passing lanes, stealing the ball, and starting the break. Earlier this season, he had a game with 14 points, 8 rebounds, and 9 steals and another with 22 points and 14 rebounds.
Ali Barry | St. Mary’s | 6’2” | Guard | 2022
Barry is a long, athletic combo guard, with a versatile skill set. He has deep range from three, a quick release on his jumper, and can pull-up off the dribble. He can break you down off the dribble, glides to the rim, scores with either hand, and makes accurate passes on the move. He turns on the speed in the open floor and is a composed finisher. He’s active on the defensive end and fills up the stat sheet with steals, blocks, and rebounds. In a recent 74-55 win over Bishop Stang, he finished with 21 points, 5 assists, and 5 blocks.
Jimmy Ball | Arlington Catholic | 6’0” | Guard | 2022
Ball is a relentless shooter and scorer, who needs little space to get his shot off. He handles the ball well, takes it strong to the basket, and is dynamic in the open floor. He’s also a good on-ball defender, who often matches up with the opposing team’s top guard. In the game I scouted, Austin Prep face-guarded him and it was on AC’s tiny court, so there was little space for him to operate. It was tough for him to get clean looks, but he stayed aggressive and kept attacking. He’s been filling it up this season, including five straight games of 24 or more points and a 29 point performance.
Quinton Morse | Austin Prep | Guard | 2022
Morse has an advanced skill set, a mature game, and a high motor. He has great handles, plays under control, and is smart with the ball. He finishes with either hand, has an array of finishes, and scores through contact. He also hits shots from mid-range and three-point land and loves to run the floor. He brings effort and intensity on the defensive end, was tasked with slowing down Jimmy Ball the other night, and proved more than up to, making Ball’s life difficult all night. This past Friday night, Morse put up 25 points and 6 steals in a 62-49 win at Cathedral. He’s fit in nicely with Austin Prep’s squad after transferring from Berwick Academy in Maine.
Tom Skeffington | Austin Prep | 6’3” | Forward | 2022
Tom is a strong interior scorer and rebounder, who brings consistent effort. He battles for position, scores through contact, and relentlessly pursues the ball. He scores with either hand and has good footwork around the basket. He anchors the middle of their zone and walls up nicely in the paint, taking multiple charges at Cathedral. In the month of January, he’s already posted five double-doubles of points and rebounds, and most recently, finished with 14 points and 18 rebounds in a 61-41 win at Arlington Catholic.
