On Saturday January 16th I attended the new CAA League at the Phhacility. I viewed 5 local teams with:

Glenview College Prep (2 teams)

AZ Compass Prep

Southern AZ Volunteers

Heritage Maricopa

Here were the some of senior standouts from the five teams:

[player_tooltip player_id="932093" first="John" last="Gaines"] Glenview College Prep

-One of the faster guards gets downhill easily. He has an incredible burst in the lane and even though he is mostly right hand dominant he can use his left as well. He has nice body control in the lane to get around traffic. He didn't make plays in this game but is capable.

[player_tooltip player_id="932155" first="Kaden" last="Luna"] Southern AZ Volunteers (Pictured on right)

-A powerful guard plays from 15-feet and in. He can hit the pull-up plus takes it to the basket with his tight handle and strong body. He bounces off of defenders to score it and gets to the line. He is tough on the ball defensively.

[player_tooltip player_id="809728" first="Yahir" last="Garcia"] Southern AZ Volunteers (Pictured on left)

-A straight shooter with good size. He can pull-up off the dribble from mid-range and gets the ball out of his hands so quickly. He was one of the main reasons that SoAZ beat a talented AZ Compass team in OT.

[player_tooltip player_id="809712" first="Zayn" last="Kimbrough"] AZ Compass Prep

-A tough and physical guard who can play on or off the ball. He played as their PG throughout most of the game and drove and kicked it to his scorers plus got into the lane and used the floater.

[player_tooltip player_id="959428" first="D’Mari" last="Johnson"] Glenview College Prep

-A low post strong power forward. He moves other opponents for position plus he has a nice drop step move he can utilize. He also can step out and shoot it from mid-range and keeps improving his 3.

[player_tooltip player_id="703853" first="Jose" last="Miguel"] Heritage Maricopa

-A slow start from Miguel, partly due to many of his guards shooting the ball quickly, which the offense dictates. In the second half he got himself to the FT line and drove to the basket. He can shoot it and is one of the tougher forward covers in the CAA. He helps his smaller team to rebound the ball as well.

[player_tooltip player_id="959690" first="Tre" last="Bell"] Heritage Maricopa

-One of the better deep shooters in the CAA. He has real range and a fast trigger. He comes with the ultimate green light, so you better go out and cover him or he will a launch from anywhere. He is quick on the ball to defend opposing PG's.

[player_tooltip player_id="1087109" first="Aaron" last="Johnson"] Heritage Maricopa

-Johnson acts as their post player, when their actual post player doesn't play on the weekends. He can shoot it to the 3pt line plus is active on the glass. He takes long strides to get into the lane and has that basketball long build and shows nice upside after high school. It wouldn't surprise me to see him switch over to the wing in college.

[player_tooltip player_id="1117894" first="Noah" last="Simmons"] Glenview College Prep

-An efficient scorer from all levels. He can shoot the catch-3 plus get downhill and score it with a stronger build/frame. He takes good shots and plays within the flow of the offense. He can defend multiple positions and use his strength to rebound and score through contact.

[player_tooltip player_id="1117892" first="Juan" last="Esquivias III"] Southern AZ Volunteers

-Their team shooter came in clutch versus AZ Compass Prep. He hit a corner-3 with a man running at him in overtime to win it. He made three 3's in the game and just plays a cerebral brand of ball. He doesn't take bad shots, he locates to open spots on the floor and moves without the ball.

[player_tooltip player_id="1117893" first="Toate" last="Sika"] Southern AZ Volunteers

-An undersized forward plays like he is 6'6. He plays with a huge motor to rebound the ball and has a relentless pursuit to get on the glass. He defends multiple positions and has a live body to run for days.
