Arlington was in a tight one Monday night against Memphis Home Education Association, but prevailed in overtime, 69-66. This was probably a game the Tigers needed to have, with more quality opponents coming up next week.

Arlington is now 12-1 on the season and will have to play this Eagles team again at the end of the season.

But, for right now, let’s dissect the five biggest plays from the Tigers’ win.

After sophomore forward Javar Daniel split free throws in overtime to tie the game 66-all, Jack Zwirlein missed a 3 from the corner with 20.9 seconds left that would have put his team up 3. Arlington secured the rebound and called timeout to setup what-would-be the final play of the night. With 7.2 seconds left in the game, senior point guard [player_tooltip player_id="983719" first="Madison" last="Peaster"] dribbled into the lane, didn’t have a scoring opportunity, but found junior guard Phil Dotson III in the corner for the 3 that was the ultimate dagger. Dotson lead the Tigers with 16 points. Peaster finished the night with 10.

Before Dotson’s dagger, Arlington trailed 64-61 after Luke Guess knocked down a 17-foot jump shot. Daniel’s score made it 64-63. Then, senior wing Isaiah Jones made a great assist to a cutting [player_tooltip player_id="1043407" first="Anthony" last="Medlock"] to give the Tigers a one-point lead.

Midway through the fourth quarter, it looked as if Arlington was finally going to pull away. Jones came alive offensively, scoring underneath the basket after Dotson’s runner. But his biggest score came with under four minutes left in the game. Jones got the offensive rebound and went back up strong for the and-1. His free throw made it 56-49 before the road team stormed back.

MHEA jumped out to an early lead (15-7) in the first quarter, but Peaster made a 3, then hit his defender with a crossover before draining the shot just inside the 3-point line. Junior wing Justin Morgan had it going for his team, scoring nine points in the first eight minutes. Morgan finished 15 and got great contributions from his teammates. Sam Eubank had 12. If it wasn’t for Peaster’s short sequence in the first, the Eagles might have built a nice-sized lead early.

Daniel had a sequence in the second quarter when he was active on the glass. He was unmatched inside the paint, so Daniel got fouled a bit midway through the second. He came up big from the free throw line, going 4 for 5 to keep his team within striking distance. The Tigers were down 28-22 at that point. Daniel finished the night with 12 points.
