Week 3: Top Players
At the end of each week during the high school basketball season, I name the top performers from the week.
Each week, I hope to add new names to the list.
Here are the top players from week three of the season.
Brandon Maclin, Jackson South Side: Maclin led the Hawks with 20 points, 6 rebounds and 3 assists in their 68-61 win over Bolivar.
Skyy Clark, Ensworth: Clark had 37 points in the Tigers’ 90-47 win over Lighthouse Christian. Malik Dia had 18, and Tony Gaines added 14.
Reese McMullen, Christian Brothers: McMullen had 25 points and six assists in the Purple Wave’s 70-66 win over Houston. Chandler Jackson had 18 points and 6 rebounds. Eli Federman added 8 points, 11 rebounds and 5 assists.
Darwin Randolph, East Hamilton: Randolph had 17 points in the Canes’ 75-32 win over Sweetwater. Jordan Harris had 13, and Eller Haynes added 11.
JaQuan Lax, Bolivar: The senior point guard reached 1,000 points this week.
Daniel Egbuniwe, FACS: Egbuniwe led the Crusaders with 21 points in their 64-48 win over St. Benedict. Josh Ward had 17. Kobe Wilkes added 15.
Marcus Gray and Adam Barbieri, St. Benedict: Both players had 12 points against FACS.
Mason Miller and TJ Madlock, Houston: Both players had 13 points in the Mustangs’ 86-59 win over Bartlett. Cal Green added 12. Freshman guard Ahmad Nowell had 11 points off the bench.
Cooper Haynes, Briarcrest: Haynes had 21 points in the Saints’ 55-49 win over MHEA. Jaye Nash had 6 points and 11 assists.
Justin Morgan, MHEA: Morgan had 16 points against Briarcrest. Jarrett Vaughn added 15.
Morgan had 25 points, 14 rebounds, 3 assists and 3 steals in the 56-48 win over Fayette Ware. Luke Shoemaker added 13 points, 4 assists, 3 rebounds and 1 steal.
Grant Slatten, White County: Slatten had 44 points in a win over Cumberland County.
Zion Swader and Matthew Schneider, Siegel: Both players had 20 points in the Stars’ 78-66 win over Stone Memorial.
Tristin Fleming, St. George’s: Fleming led his team with 16 points in its win over Fayette Academy. Landon Johnson added 15. Tate Wirth had 13.
Austin Abernathy, Fayette Academy: Abernathy had 21 points in the Vikings’ 68-61 loss to St. George’s. Luke Moore had 13, and Andrew Payne added 11.
Jalen Brown, Tennessee Prep Academy: Brown had 23 points, 2 rebounds, 1 assist and 1 steal in a 63-56 loss to BFL Prep (WA).
Jordan Hamilton, Fayette Ware: Hamilton had 18 points and 9 rebounds against MHEA. Harmonta Griggs added 13.
Christian Gilliand, Northpoint Christian: Gilliand had 20 points in a 55-52 loss to Olive Branch.
Davon Barnes, Collierville: Barnes had 20 points in the Dragons’ win over Macon Road Baptist. Alex Vandenbergh had 14, and TJ McNeal added 10.
Phil Dotson III, Arlington: Dotson had 25 points in a 70-68 win over ECS. Javar Daniel had 16 points, 11 rebounds and 7 blocks.
Kameron Jones, ECS: Jones had 32 points against the Arlington Tigers.
Micah Simpson, Morristown East: Simpson had 22 points in the 65-53 win over Greeneville, 27 points in a win over Cosby and 21 points in a win over Cocke County.
Braden llic had 25 points in the win over the Fighting Cocks.
Ayman McGowan, MUS: McGowan had 26 points – 8 for 11 from 3 – in the Owls’ win over Fayette Ware. R’Chaun King had 17 points and 7 rebounds. Jack Jabbour added 9 points. Curtis Givens Jr. had 9 points and 7 assists.
Grant Hurst, Cleveland: Hurst had 20 points, 12 assists and 11 rebounds in a 78-56 win over McMinn County. He had 24 points in a loss to Bearden.
Patrick Smith Jr., Goodpasture: Smith had 25 points, 6 assists and 6 steals in a win over Nashville Central Christian. Isaiah West added 19 points, 7 steals, 6 rebounds and 3 assists.
