At the end of each week, we will take a look at some of the top players that we saw throughout the week. Below are the top wings that I saw in the three games that I was able to check out this week.
Tate Stine-Smith Tate Stine-Smith 6'0" | SF ADM | 2021 State IA (ADM, 2021)
Stine-Smith, and all of ADM really, struggled against a very good Dallas Center-Grimes team after the first quarter, but his activity level stands out. He’s active on both ends of the floor, has a solid frame with good length, and can score from all three levels. He’s a solid rebounder and passer, and has active hands on the defensive end.
Karl Miller Karl Miller 6'4" | SF Pella | 2022 State IA (Pella, 2022)
The 6-4 wing is super talented, but has battled injuries throughout his young high school career. He showed his talent in the Dutch’s comeback win over Indianola, particularly in the second quarter when he scored 10 of his 14 points. He’s long and has a good frame, and he’s a really good shooter with a quick release who moves well off the ball. He contributes on the glass (9 rebounds) and is a willing passer who sees the floor well, dishing out 5 assists. He uses his length to make an impact on the defensive end as well, getting his hands on a lot of passes and contributing 4 steals in his stat sheet stuffing performance.
Drew Kingery Drew Kingery 6'4" | SF Indianola | 2023 State IA , Indianola (2023)
Kingery is one of the top 2023s in the state, and he showed why in the Indians loss to Pella, scoring 15 points to go with 4 rebounds, 3 assists and 4 steals. He’s a long wing with a good looking stroke from deep, but where he really stood out on the offensive end was with his ability to attack the rim. He was in constant attack mode, showing outstanding body control around the bucket. He doesn’t force anything, and he uses his length to make an impact on the defensive end, getting his hands in the passing lanes.
Parker Elder Parker Elder 6'4" | SF Pella | 2022 State IA (Pella, 2022)
Elder is an eye-popping athlete who is starting to add to his skill set and become an impact player on both ends of the floor. He struggled to finish around the rim early on, but came alive in the second half, scoring a game-high 20 points (17 in the second half on 7-11 shooting). He scored all six points for Pella in overtime, including a pair of jaw-dropping dunks, one on a putback, and one in transition. He attacks the offensive glass hard and is a good help defender who can come out of nowhere to block shots. He pulled down 12 rebounds and blocked 3 shots to go with his 20 points and highlight reel plays.
