Continue ReadingThe season is only in Week 4 but we are starting to see some teams emerge that could really take steps forward this year. Edinbburgh, a team that has only been above .500 once in the last 5 years, is sitting at 5-0 this year with wins over Indian Creek and Southwestern-Shelbyville.
They are a relatively older group but is led by sophomore standout Caleb Dewey Caleb Dewey 6'3" | SF Edinburgh | 2023 State IN who is averaging 13.6 points per game. They also don’t have a ton of size, enough for 1A but only a couple guys stand-in 6-3 or taller. This is a team that, so far, is doing it as a team with four guys averaging between 9.6 and 13.6 ppg.
Dewey is a guy that has the ability to score the ball well for his age. He’s got strength and sitting at 6’3, can be a force inside and out. He actually averaged 14.8 points last season but we have already seen his rebounding and assist numbers go up.
Edinburgh’s season is a mixed bag ranging from 4A games to 1A games, easy wins to high-end opponents. Look for games against West Washington, Morristown, and South Decatur to get a true sense of how good this group could be. They look like the class of their Sectional but 1A South could be pretty tough this season.
So far, though, Edinburgh looks like they are moving well into the right direction. No mistakes and tested a bit already. With a tough schedule for a rural 1A team, this could be the year you see them make the second weekend of the state tournament and possibly beyond.
