Here are the quick hits from the Saints’ win over the Eagles.
This was a game of runs.
MHEA quickly jumped out to a 7-0 lead that was started by a Sam Eubank’s 3. Late first quarter/early second quarter, Briarcrest went on a 10-2 run to take a 10-point lead. The Eagles quickly cut their deficit down to two with a 10-0 run of their own. MHEA went on one more run in the third quarter (7-0) to get within one heading into the fourth quarter.
The Saints’ 10-0 run was the one that broke the game open. At the top of the fourth quarter, Briarcrest forced three straight turnovers that led to six quick points.
The Eagles had chances of taking control over the game, but they missed too many layups at the rim. The Saints missed some easy scoring opportunities as well. Briarcrest was fortunate to have shots fall at key moments of the game.
Cooper Haynes made shots when the Saints needed them.
Whenever Briarcrest needed score, the freshman shooting guard was the best scoring option on the floor. Haynes got into the lane when the opportunity presented itself. He made shots from the perimeter. Haynes took a lot of great shots. In a span of four minutes (late first quarter/early second quarter), he scored eight points. Haynes made a big 3 early in third quarter when his team was clinging to a one-point lead. Down the stretch, the 6-foot-3 sniper put the game away from the free throw line. He went a perfect 4 for 4 from the charity stripe.
Haynes led the team with 21 points. Freshman point guard Jaye Nash found Haynes on some of his baskets. He finished with six points and 11 assists.

The junior wing had a lot of nice looks from the perimeter. The shots just didn’t fall. Morgan didn’t seem to get frustrated because of his offensive struggles. He kept putting shots up – shots that he’s capable of making. The entire team kept fighting. Morgan led the team with 16. Jarrett Vaughn added 15. Prior to Friday night’s road game, MHEA was scoring in the 90s. The Eagles are a competitive group, with senior leadership and players who are going to go to battle for 32 minutes.
