I know as players and even fans you sometimes get tired of hearing the same old names. You desperately want to know who’s next. In this article, I have listed and evaluated some of the guys looking to take Louisiana by storm this season and seasons to come. Below are players who are barely wet behind the ears in terms of the high school game, but are ready to place their stamp on it.
Corey Chest Corey Chest 6'7" | SF McMain | 2023 #94 Nation MO 6’5” 2023 McMain
Having a good summer against his grade group has caused expectations to be high for Chest. Currently, his athleticism in the form of rebounds, blocks, and dunks are on display. Also, he is a player who has the highly coveted motor college coaches pursue. The question with Chest when will he begin to display a perimeter game?
Jordan Moore 6’2” 2004 Crescent City
I’ve watched Moore this summer in some games where he battled against older players as he and some other incoming frosh battled against this season’s seniors. Moore did well, and it’s showing as he scored 9 points against Beau Chene. Already a high flyer, Moore is learning the mental game of varsity, Moore is the only person holding him back. Once he gets it…watch out.
N’Derius Walker 6’0” 2023 East Ascension
Walker has embraced being the replacement of one the best class of 2021 players in Louisiana. The young guard plays fearless attacking defenses finishing among the trees if need be. What makes him unique is under the circumstances he doesn’t complain. Oh, should I mention don’t play with the ball when in Walker’s area? Yes, walker does a good job making his man earn every inch of the court.
Amir Rios 6’3” 2023 East Saint John
Rios is the type of kid coaches notice on video when recruiting another player. Focusing on one of Louisiana’s top scorers and one of Rios’ teammates I happen to notice this kid who was finding his way amid the duel. Rios has the physical measurables and the game to be a stud himself. Yet as a soph, his confidence is not there. But if it comes together…. we got one Louisiana.
Cole White 6’6” 2023 Holy Cross
The light-skinned Bruh Man may not come through the fire escape, but eats everything in the lane be it rebounds or tough muscled points. He displayed this in the 17 points scored against a quality Liberty team. White looks like he may even add an inch or two, if you combine that with a jumper, he may dominate the Catholic League and beyond.
Jamal Drewery 6’0” 2025 Southern Lab
Last but not least LHSAA YoungBoy Jamal Drewery. Having heard about his exploits from his former middle school coach Aug I was surprised when I saw Drewery at Festgivings playing with the big boys. At halftime, I asked the coach about Drewery at half and he pointed out there is right there. After a decent not so spectacular first half, he outscored everyone in the 2nd half with 11 points and 18 for the game. Life is tough for any freshman on the varsity, and I can only imagine what is for a guy in middle school. But the future is now, and if Lab is to return to its former stature, Drewery and gang better bring the smoke if they are to overtake Calvary and Crescent City.
