Jasen Green Jasen Green 6'7" | PF Millard North | 2022 State #153 Nation NE – Millard North
The versatility in Jason’s game is impressive. He’s an undersized center, which allows Millard North to run, and run, and run some more. He can handle the ball himself and start the transition break if needed. In the first clip, he gets the rebound, turns, and immediately finds a streaking teammate for an easy transition bucket.
In the second clip, he cuts beautifully behind his man, who is caught ball-watching. He then immediately taps a touch pass to the corner for a wide open three-point shot. Not many bigs can handle the ball and distribute like Greene can. He finished the day with 8 points, 7 rebounds, and 4 impressive blocked shots.
William Kyle – Bellevue West
Frankie Fidler Frankie Fidler 6'6" | SF Bellevue West | 2021 State NE ’s 31-point explosion overshadowed the excellent performance junior William Kyle had against Omaha Benson. Kyle had a double-double for the Thunderbirds, scoring 20 points on 90% shooting, and securing 10 rebounds. He was an excellent release valve for Frankie Fidler Frankie Fidler 6'6" | SF Bellevue West | 2021 State NE when he attracted too much attention. He was active on defense, getting 2 steals and 2 blocks.
Evan Myersick – Millard West
Myersick’s 13 second-half points and team-high 6 rebounds led Millard West to a hard-earned victory over Millard South. He was the go-to offense for the Wildcats in the first round, and Millard South had difficulty keeping him quiet, even when sending help. His best work occurred on the glass, where his effort and tenacity resulted in rebounds for other teammates in addition to his own six. Millard West won 54–44, and will face a talented Bellevue West team in the next round.
Danair Dempsey Danair Dempsey 6'6" | PF Papillion-LaVista South | 2021 State NE – Papillion-La Vista South
The senior forward put forth one of the best two-way efforts on opening night. Danair is one of the best defenders in the state, and that was true once again against the Omaha South Packers. He blocked three shots and altered many more. His ability to guard the perimeter was what impressed me most. No guard was able to gain advantages when facing Danair. His point totals are never exceptional, but his overall offensive impact was felt. He was ferocious on the glass, pulling down three offensive rebounds.
A.J. Rollins – Creighton Prep
Rim protection duties largely fell on A.J. in their first round matchup against Omaha North. The Vikings were discouraged from shooting near the rim with Rollins in the game. He finished with nine rebounds, three assists, and 2 blocks for the Jays. Scoring responsibility was handled by a handful of other teammates, so A.J. found a role in doing everything else.
