Preseason Player of the Year:
Devan Mcewen Devan Mcewen 6'3" | SG Lebo | 2021 State KS , senior, Lebo:
An argument could be made for Stutesman, but McEwen’s senior resume is impressive. One of the top-two sport athletes in the state, McEwen led the Wolves to the state quarterfinals in football, just like he did in basketball a year ago. He averaged 20 points and 5.2 rebounds as a junior, en route to second team 1A honors.
Returning stars:
Drew Stutesman Drew Stutesman 6'2" | CG Madison | 2022 State KS , junior, Madison:
Another star on the football field, Stutesman is a 6-foot-3 athlete who assumed leadership of a talented team last year. The Bulldogs are loaded for a run to repeat as league champs. Stutesman’s 14 points and 9 rebounds earned him second team 1A honors as a sophomore.
Chase Harris Chase Harris 6'2" | CG Wichita Heights | 2022 State KS on, senior, Madison:
Stutesman’s sidekick is a 6-foot-1 senior who scored 12 points a game and earned third team 1A. He had some huge nights last year. Add in 6-foot-5 Kelton Buettner, Brome Rayburn and Ryan Wolgram and this Madison team is deep, talented and experienced.
Trevor Quaney, junior, Burlingame:
Quaney is probably the top big man in the league, and has already played a ton of varsity basketball. He averaged 11.6 points and 9 rebounds as a sophomore, and probably deserved more recognition than he received.
Damon Redeker, junior, Olpe;
The 5-foot-11 guard had a well-balanced sophomore season, averaging 12 points, 4 rebounds and 3 assists. He earned honorable mention 1A.
Jordan Barnard, senior, Olpe:
Like his teammate Redeker, Barnard earned honorable mention 1A, leading his club to a 16-6 record with 12 points and 4 rebounds a contest.
Players to watch:
Damon Foster, senior, Waverly:
As a junior, Foster averaged 11.3 points, 4.8 rebounds and 3.5 steals per game
Landon Grimmett, sophomore, Lebo;
The 5-foot-11 guard scored 8 points a game as a freshman, getting all-league recognition for his contribution to the loaded Lebo club.
Ali Smith, sophomore, Hartford:
Smith averaged 5.7 points, 4.2 rebounds and 3.6 assists per game as freshman starter.
Cole Lacey, junior, Marais des Cygnes Valley:
Lacey averaged 10.2 points per game and will try to help the Trojans improve on their 6-15 record a year ago.
