<p>Coming into tonight’s game both teams were undefeated. Jamestown was 2-0 and Minot was 4-0. In our Power Rankings, we have Jamestown as #1 and Minot as #4. The Blue Jays came out firing early with [player_tooltip player_id="750168" first="Brooks" last="Carroll"] knocking down a 3-pointer to start the game. It was a back and forth first half both teams playing man-to-man defense. In the first three minutes of the game, there were four offensive fouls called with a few more later in the half. There were plenty of whistles that slowed up play. Jamestown built a lead early that went up to eight points. Minot went on a run led by [player_tooltip player_id="750158" first="Deonte" last="Martinez"] that would result in Minot tying the game at 17. The Magi would build their lead up to six points. The Blue Jays played 10 different players in the first half. Their fresh legs helped them keep it close and they went into halftime down four points.</p>
<p>Minot stuck with half-court man in the second half and did a great job of keeping Jamestown at bay. The Blue Jays played some 2-3 zone in the second half and slowed down Minot. With neither team picking up the pace on defense the second half did not have a great flow to it. Minot held the lead the entire second half with a balanced attack offensively. The Magi pushed their lead up to 10 points in the second half. Jamestown tried pressing a little toward the end, but it was a little too late. This was a big win for Minot to get coming out of the short Christmas break. Minot will go into 2021 with an unblemished record. Jamestown still has a tough week ahead with games against Bismarck and Century.</p>
<p><strong>Game Takeaways</strong> – [player_tooltip player_id="750158" first="Deonte" last="Martinez"] is the best on-ball defender in North Dakota. Minot plays great team defense and help-side. Jamestown has a deep bench that is full of energy and fundamental players. [player_tooltip player_id="1050246" first="Darik" last="Dissette"] is an underrated sophomore for Minot.</p>

<p><strong>[player_tooltip player_id="731881" first="Carson" last="Lamp"] (2021) |6-1 G| Jamestown</strong> – He pushes it in transition. He is a solid fundamental player. He had a couple of nice assists in the second half.</p>
<p><strong>[player_tooltip player_id="750162" first="Jacob" last="Hilgemann"] (2021) |6-2 G| Jamestown</strong> – An athletic player with a good motor. He looks good when attacking the basket.</p>
<p><strong>[player_tooltip player_id="750163" first="Keith" last="Levin"] (2021) |6-7 F| Jamestown</strong> – A Strong big man with good feet. He made some nice post moves when he got the ball inside. Keith is an athletic post player; he just did not get many touches tonight.</p>
<p><strong>Ty Monson (2021) |6-2 G| Jamestown</strong> – A thick hard-working player. He has a nice stroke from the perimeter and knocked down a couple 3’s tonight. He is a grinder inside on the boards.</p>
<p><strong>Minot</strong><br />
<strong>[player_tooltip player_id="1050246" first="Darik" last="Dissette"] (2023) |6-3 F| Minot</strong> – Impressive performance tonight by this athletic sophomore. He was on attack mode tonight. Darik has a long first step that helps him blow by the defender and get into the lane. He crashes the O-boards hard and has a long wingspan.</p>
<p><strong>[player_tooltip player_id="750158" first="Deonte" last="Martinez"] (2021) |5-11 G| Minot</strong> – A great night for him on the defensive side, he shut down the opposing guards. His pull up jumper looked great again tonight. It is almost impossible to press Minot because Deonte is a 1-man press break. He is lightning quick getting up and down the court.</p>
<p><strong>Eric Wentz (2022) |6-2 G| Minot</strong> – Athletic player who is good off the bounce. Eric is a persistent on-ball defender.</p>
<p><strong>Gavin Argent (2021) |6-3 G| Minot</strong> – He looks like a quality 3-point shooter and he plays great team defense.</p>
<p><strong>Kade Butz (2021) |6-1 G| Minot</strong> – Solid role-player for the Magi who does his job. He looks like a legit 3-point threat.</p>
