Even Governor Bill Lee’s Executive Order 70 could not cool off the hot hands of [player_tooltip player_id="537260" first="Grant" last="Slatten"] (White County) and [player_tooltip player_id="1011998" first="Kristian" last="Shaw"] (Beech). This story will warm your heart.

Facing Dickson County High School, [player_tooltip player_id="1011998" first="Kristian" last="Shaw"] made 10 of 12 three-point shots! In other words, the star junior hit 83.3% from the arc in live game action. The number barely makes sense.

"I thought I hit a lot," said Shaw via phone Monday evening. "After the game they told me, ’I think you broke the record.’

They refers to Beech Assistant Boys Basketball Coach Rondal Bertrum and Beech Principal Kenny Powell.

"They said they think," said Shaw. "Like, once we got done eating, they said I did [for sure]. I think the record was 9. I had 10."

Breaking records is an extremely rare thing, and for Shaw this was his very first broken record. How does it feel?

"It feels good. Honestly. I wasn’t going into today thinking about doing this."

Shaw is and will continue to be a very skilled outside shooter. That he buried multiple three-pointers is not surprising and yet he did manage to surprise the opponents with a few triples even in the fourth quarter of his record-setting night.

"I had 23 with 6 minutes left in the 3rd quarter," said Shaw. "Then I came out. I came back to start the fourth quarter. I guess they forgot. In the fourth, I hit 2 or 3."

From the jump the plan for Dickson County seemed to be stick the tallest defender on Shaw and just extend him out away from the basket. Unfortunately for Dickson County, Shaw is extremely comfortable away from the basket. That is what makes him so dangerous as a basketball player.

The night felt the same early for Shaw. "But after I hit my first two or three I just kept shooting. Their tallest dude tried to face-guard me for a little bit, but I don’t know. That didn’t work out."

Did they adjust? Change anything?

"Honestly, they just kept him on me."

Dickson County did play a little 1-3-1 over the course of the game. [player_tooltip player_id="1011998" first="Kristian" last="Shaw"] maintains college recruiting interest from: Tennessee State, Lipscomb, Lincoln Memorial, Western Kentucky, Arkansas Little Rock, Lee.

Slatten Slides into First

[player_tooltip player_id="537260" first="Grant" last="Slatten"] accomplished something both predictable and outrageous Monday night. In the same game, Grant set White County High School’s single-game scoring record (59) and broke the All-Time career scoring record. He surpassed his own single game record of 44, from just two weeks back.

"It felt amazing," said [player_tooltip player_id="537260" first="Grant" last="Slatten"] afterwards. "My team did a great job getting me the ball and hitting me when I was open and it just worked out for us. It’s a phenomenal feeling."
