Film Review: Volume 2

<p>The pandemic has forced us all to <a href="https://twitter.com/AyalewAdam/status/1338951969692499970?s=20"><strong>think outside the box</strong></a> in terms of how we highlight student-athletes. This is the second part of a film review series that aims to help local players get the exposure they’re missing.</p> <p><strong>[player_tooltip player_id="957903" first="Garrett" last="Cox"] | 6’6 F | Glen Allen ‘21</strong></p> <p>Tall sharpshooter that uses his potent perimeter shot to open up the rest of his offensive game. Above-average ball-handler for his size. Adept at seeking straight-line drives and finishing strong at the rim in traffic. Mixes it up with a nice in-between game. Corner specialist with a high release point. Is always shot ready and gets his shot off quickly. Effectively creates space for his shot at times with a drop of the shoulder into a step back. Underrated playmaker, especially in transition. Anticipates well. Can pass with either hand. Disruptive defensively around the basket. Blocks shots with his left or right hand. Productive rebounder.</p> <p><strong>[player_tooltip player_id="1049644" first="Tevin" last="Curtis"] | 5’10 G | St. Frances ’21 </strong></p> <p>A left-handed pass-first point guard who is a confident ball-handler. A reliable playmaker who is dangerous in transition. Effective at initiating offense out of pick-and-rolls. Consistently makes corner threes with his feet set. Decent shooter off the dribble who changes speeds well and displays some wiggle. Picks up full court defensively where he is tenacious at the point of attack.</p> <p><strong>Oluwasegun “Duro” Durosinmi | 6’9 C | Virginia Academy ‘21</strong></p> <p>Physically imposing paint presence who protects the rim well. Blocks shots with either hand. Solid screener who shows hands while rolling to the basket. Long arms give him added touch on his post hook shot. An ambidextrous finisher who can score over either shoulder with his back to the basket. Often looks to dunk the ball in traffic. Showcases shooting range out to 20 feet.</p> <p><strong> </strong><strong>Jaxon Hartman | 6’2 G | Wilson Memorial ‘22</strong></p> <p>Corner specialist who must be accounted for on the perimeter. Is always shot ready and demonstrates a quick release. Sprinkles in a complimentary in-between game off one or two dribbles. Will take a straight-line drive to the basket and protect the ball nicely on his way to the rim. Uses floaters effectively.</p> <p><strong>Tyler Lodge | 6’0 G | Tallwood ‘22</strong></p> <p>A skilled lefty who can score from all three-levels. An adept straight-line driver who is a crafty finisher around the basket. Plays off two feet in the paint.</p> <p><strong>Deven Martino | 5’11 G | Bishop O’Connell ‘21</strong></p> <p>Skilled guard with deep shooting range from the catch and a quick release. Quick and confident with the ball. Consistently beats the first man and can finish through contact around the basket. Menacing on-ball defender. Creates space or his shot with step backs. Equally effective when driving left or right. Finishes with either hand around the rim.<strong> </strong></p> <p><strong>BJ McNeil | 6’0 G | Potomac School ‘22</strong></p> <p>A skilled guard who has good burst with the ball. Dynamic scorer and playmaker in transition. Consistently makes perimeter jumpers with his feet set. Holds follow through on makes. Willing passer who exhibits commendable court vision. Confident pulling up off one or two dribbles from 15 feet.</p> <p><strong>[player_tooltip player_id="902013" first="Thomas" last="Whitley"] | 6’6 F | Eleanor Roosevelt ‘21</strong></p> <p>Athletic forward who plays above the rim on both ends. Skilled with the ball. Good pull-up shooter from mid-range. Finishes with either hand at the rim. A potent three-point shooter from the catch in part because he is always shot ready. Footwork in the high-post is impressive. A good playmaker in half-court sets.</p>
