The Colonial Conference was one of the more underrated conferences in the Garden State last year with a pair of sectional finalists. Five total teams won 20 games last season, creating a competitive atmosphere at the top. Current Chestnut Hill guard [player_tooltip player_id="896642" first="MJ" last="Iraldi"] was the conference’s player of the year in 2019-20, leaving an opening for the title. Here are the top candidates to be the Colonial Conference Player of the Year.

[player_tooltip player_id="931024" first="Tommy" last="Mooney"], 6’1 PG Haddonfield 2022

Haddonfield has to replace its top two scorers from last season and the team is relying on Mooney to take over the offense. The 6’1 lead guard has a good handle and is able to beat his man off the dribble with consistency. Mooney is a nice finisher around the basket and does not mind drawing contact on his way to the bucket. He has a nice release on his jumper and is a solid on-ball defender. Mooney is a gritty lead guard who will lead the Haddonfield offense this season.

[player_tooltip player_id="1031004" first="Damian" last="Rawls"], 6’1 CG Overbrook 2021

The Rams won 21 games last season and they will be a team to watch again with Rawls returning in the backcourt. The 6’1 guard is at his best attacking in transition where he uses his combination of speed and handle to get to the rim. Rawls is more than just a slasher as he can score in the mid-range and his range extends past the three-point line. He rips down rebounds on both ends of the floor and makes good decisions with the ball in his hands. Rawls is a talented guard prospect who is a player to watch in Group 1 this season.

Eriq Campbell, 6’2 CG Lindenwold 2021

[player_tooltip player_id="900297" first="Tazir" last="Cantey"]’s transfer to Eastern hurts the Lions, but Campbell’s performance in the South Jersey Group 1 playoffs should alleviate their concerns. The 6’2 guard attacks the basket with a purpose as he is unafraid of contact. Campbell has a smooth touch in the mid-range and knows how to finish around the basket. He is a good passer and is a play-maker on the defensive end of the floor. Campbell averaged 23.5 points per game during the sectional playoffs, which he could average this season for Lindenwold.

[player_tooltip player_id="1013001" first="Antoine" last="Arnett"], 6’5 SF Sterling 2021

Sterling may have only won 14 games in 2019-20, but the Silver Knights have a hidden gem in Arnett. The lanky 6’5 wing can jump out of the gym and loves to finish above the rim. Arnett is capable of slashing to the basket from the perimeter and has a nice touch around the basket. He skies for rebounds on both ends of the floor and uses his athleticism to make an impact on the defensive end. Arnett is an athletic wing prospect who is ready to burst onto the scene in 2020-21.

Isaiah Turner, CG Haddon Heights 2021

The Garnets have to replace three of their top four leading scorers, leaving Turner a big responsibility on the perimeter. He has a good handle on the perimeter and is capable of running the offense in a pinch. Turner attacks the basket with a purpose and knows how to finish around the basket. He is a tough on-ball defender and is a strong rebounder for a guard. Turner is ready to shoulder a larger scoring role for a Haddon Heights squad looking to replicate some of its success from last season.

Other Prospects to Watch:

[player_tooltip player_id="901954" first="Keyshun" last="Sanders"], 5’11 PG Paulsboro 2022

Ed Ngene, 6’8 PF/C Lindenwold 2021

[player_tooltip player_id="933718" first="Devon" last="Johnson"], PG Overbrook 2023

[player_tooltip player_id="901977" first="Mehki" last="Bassett"], 6’3 SG/SF Collingswood 2022
