Detroit Frederick Douglass has deservedly built a reputation as a high level basketball program full of elite academic athletes. Difficult times with the Covid pandemic certainly hasn’t stopped the team from performing in the classroom. Let’s take a look at some of the outstanding efforts by players at Detroit Frederick Douglass.
Pierre Brooks Pierre Brooks 6'5" | SG Detroit Douglass | 2021 State #76 Nation MI II (2021, 6-6, G/F)
4.0 GPA
Not only is Brooks II quite possibly the most talented basketball player in the state, but Michigan high school basketball may not have a better all around student than him as well. I always say that he’s a high basketball IQ type player, but that high IQ extends well beyond the basketball court.
Vega Stoudemire (2021, 5-10, G)
4.0 GPA
Stoudemire is really giving himself a chance at being recruited. College coaches eyes light up when they see a 4.0 GPA.
Preston Kelly (2022, 5-9, G)
4.0 GPA
The quick guard has the makings of a future leader for Detroit Frederick Douglass. To lead at this school, you have to have your academics in order. A perfect GPA says that he certainly does.
Deven Kelly
4.0 GPA
The young guard is a performer on the court and in the classroom. He has a bright future in both areas.
Alexander Wiltz (2021, 6-3, SF)
3.8 GPA
Wiltz could be a big factor for Frederick Douglass off the wing this season. His 3.8 GPA will grab next level coaches attention, that’s for sure.
Franklin Ezeoke (2022, 6-7, PF)
3.8 GPA
Ezeoke has potential oozing from him. College coaches are really watching to see his development. Ezeoke makes it easy to get recruited with the academic success that he puts on the table.
Damon Tiggs (2021, 6-1, G)
3.5 GPA
Tiggs is a talented player, but possibly an even more skilled leader. And he doesn’t just lead on the basketball court. Tiggs is an academic leader as well.
Jahi Gibson (2022, 6-0, SG)
3.5 GPA
Gibson is a very smooth athlete that can cut to the rim and score at multiple levels. As impressive as his game is, his performance in the classroom is all the more impressive.
Michael Irving (2023, 5-8, PG)
3.0 GPA
Irving is a skilled floor general that college coaches will want to watch. It’s easy to recruit a player that gets the job done in school as well.
Javantae Randle Javantae Randle 6'9" | PF Detroit Frederick Douglass | 2021 State MI (2021, PF)
3.0 GPA
Randle is a rising star that has shown great growth in his game over the last year. Some Division 1 school will be getting a versatile forward, a defensive difference maker, and a stellar student.
