2022 Suburban One League Standouts Pt. 1

<p>There hasn’t been a high school boys basketball season this unique and highly anticipated ever. The 2020/21 season is going to be an unprecedented one and this is especially true in the state of Pennsylvania, one of the nation’s best areas of high school talent.</p> <p>Prep Hoops continues its look in the state, going to the Suburban One League for junior standouts to watch this season. This is the first in a multi-part series, starting in the American Division.</p> <p><strong>Connor Fields, SF Abington:</strong> Fields is a multi-dimensional playmaker for Abington, a dominant force on both sides of the ball. He tends to slide more down low on offense and while he can shoot, he prefers to push the ball inside and flourish in the paint. He has the size to do it at 6-4, able to back down defenders, but on defense, he’s the exact opposite, a brick wall who plays up on opponents and forces them to make the plays, not giving up anything easy. Nothing’s easy around Fields.</p> <p><strong>Matt Tiernan, G/F Upper Moreland:</strong> Tiernan is someone who will find a way to create a shot opportunity for himself. He cuts well off a screen, he knows how to get into the lane and make things happen, whether that be drawing contact or scoring from close-range. He’s a gritty defender, giving up his body for possession. He’s going to do the dirty work, but Tiernan has some added attributes that make himself stand out as a versatile player for Upper Moreland.</p> <p><strong>Ray Tomassetti, SG Plymouth Whitemarsh:</strong> Tomasetti has the ability to be a double-double machine with the ability to score at will from outside. He positions himself well on offense, moving well off the ball to get open looks from the perimeter. As well as he can score, he can dominate on the defensive end, blocking shots, creating turnovers off errant passes, and disrupting the game for the opposition.</p> <p><strong>Josh Twersky, SF Wissahickon:</strong> Twersky shines as a small forward, a dual threat on both sides of the court for good reason. He can shoot the lights out and shows a lot of promise as an efficient scorer. Go over to his defense and he’s crashing the board for rebounds, using his court awareness to cause a turnover off a steal and then making things happen in a split second on the other side of the court. Twersky is going to be a big factor on this Wissahickon team this season.</p> <p><strong>Ben Dorsey, PF/C Upper Dublin:</strong> Dorsey is a massive presence in the lane, patrolling the paint for Upper Dublin. He does well at scoring early, scoring often and scoring with efficiency. He’s the prototypical double-double machine, able to grab the rebound on both ends of the floor to either start up a positive offensive possession or keep one alive. Dorsey will need a bit more agility to play that stretch five role seen much more often in college and the pros, but he’s on the right track to success right now with Upper Dublin.</p> <p>Continue to follow Prep Hoops for more player profiles and previews as the 2020/21 high school boys basketball season in Pennsylvania creeps closer.</p>
