With that in mind, it’s bound to happen that we see and hear of some names that aren’t too familiar. Here’s five who we got acquainted with, really fast. Check out a few of the new names we learned from the Expo.
Isaiah Timmons | 6-0 | Gateway Charter
This senior guard had some notable moments during his time at the Top 250 Expo. Timmons shows a great deal of patience when in the half-court offense, never rushes to have a play develop into a scoring opportunity when he’s handling the ball. On the drive, he possesses a solid hesitation move to throw defenders off-balance & get to rim. Excited to see what he does for Gateway Charter in his final season.
De’Shayne Montgomery | 6-1 | Somerset Prep
Another senior guard who should be a key player for their squad this year, De’Shayne Montgomery uses his frame extremely well when on the drive. He’s able to contort his body through traffic and come away with some tough lay-ins, and shows his strength by taking contact right at the rim. Montgomery should give Somerset Prep some quality minutes, this season.
Jael Rodriguez Jael Rodriguez 6'0" | SF South Fort Myers | 2021 State FL | 6-0 | Gateway Charter
Senior guard Rodriguez will be pairing with Isaiah Timmons at Gateway Charter, and that should make for one electric duo. Rodriguez is another guy who can definitely attack the rim and score around bigger defenders. Though at six-foot, he does a great job at timing his jumps for offensive rebounds. Looking to see something big from Jael in his last year.
Kyle Smith Kyle Smith 6'5" | SF Astronaut | 2021 State FL | 6-5 | Astronaut
I mentioned Smith in a previous article, but given the category, a second listing is definitely appropriate. The deep-shooting senior made his presence felt, hitting the long-ball from various spots around the perimeter. Defensively, his length poses a challenge for passers. He’s able to clog passing gaps, earn deflections, and create turnovers. Smith should be instrumental for Astronaut, this season.
