The Wing Man Report returns taking a look at the latest happenings this past week on the hoop scene in the state of North Carolina. This week covers Trinity Academy Raleigh, Moravian Prep, and some prospects in the Triad area that are making noise on the hardwood.

An Early Look at Trinity Academy Raleigh

Trinity Academy Raleigh granted PrepHoopsNC early access to their intra-squad scrimmage and they had a ton of prospects on display. The returning players from last year’s 23-5 squad looked better than ever heading into a new season. [player_tooltip player_id="931600" first="Tyler" last="Gill"] (Towson commit) was looking a whole lot leaner and in turn, quicker off the bounce on the floor. 2022 wing [player_tooltip player_id="848082" first="Noah" last="Ross"] is a much more vocal leader and aggressive with the ball in his hands on all three levels. [player_tooltip player_id="1014991" first="Kevon" last="Vanderhorst"] (2023), [player_tooltip player_id="838046" first="Sam" last="Perez"] (2022), Tim Robinson (2022) and 2022 forward Trey Barker are a few of the new names to know for a team that should be the deepest yet.

Vanderhorst is an emerging point guard that’s fun to watch given his ability to compete on both ends. He’s already drawn DI interest from the likes of Belmont and others. Perez is a new addition from Middle Creek High where he put up solid production on the wing and should do the same and then some for the Tigers. Robinson is a 6-foot-5 forward that runs the floor well for easy buckets and has rim-protection potential. Not playing due to injury were 2023 Wing/Forward [player_tooltip player_id="944974" first="Jakwon" last="Moore"] and 2022 Guard Zach Sloan.

Top Shelf Showcase Brings out Top Talent

Moravian Prep’s National squad was on display san [player_tooltip player_id="577884" first="Corneilous" last="Williams"] this past Wednesday in a TopShelf Showcase game against the Triad Blue Chip Select squad that featured [player_tooltip player_id="838021" first="Jamarii" last="Thomas"], [player_tooltip player_id="838020" first="Kuluel" last="Mading"], [player_tooltip player_id="574459" first="Kadyn" last="Dawkins"], [player_tooltip player_id="574478" first="Jamarien" last="Dalton"], [player_tooltip player_id="985980" first="Shad" last="Thomas"] and some other top prospects from the Triad Area. Moravian Prep was led by [player_tooltip player_id="838019" first="B.J." last="Freeman"], 2022 point guard [player_tooltip player_id="574443" first="Camian" last="Shell"], 2022 forward [player_tooltip player_id="932088" first="Anthony" last="Sellars"], 2025 guard [player_tooltip player_id="1029969" first="Eli" last="Ellis"], 2021 guard [player_tooltip player_id="932061" first="Cedric" last="Patterson"] though they came up short in the end 119-124.

Ellis posted 30 points while shoot 7-of-11 from 3-point range, Freeman finished with 26 points, showing off his ability to get to the paint and finish in traffic. Shell finished with 19 points, showing off his ability to run the show at the point guard spot. Sellars finished with 14 points while playing mainly in the post with Williams absent. Patterson finished with nine points, showing off his stroke from the perimeter.

The Triad Area has some unsigned talent!

The Triad Select squad was led by a strong performance from [player_tooltip player_id="838021" first="Jamarii" last="Thomas"] against Moravin Prep. Thomas posted 38 points in the game with 29 of those points coming in the second half. He’s a prospect that continues to show his winning mentality while giving fans a preview of what to expect alongside [player_tooltip player_id="838020" first="Kuluel" last="Mading"] at The Burlington School. Mading, who was also featured alongside Thomas, finished with 26 points in the game, knocking down three 3-pointers and showing off his ability to put the ball on the floor and finish at the rim.

[player_tooltip player_id="574459" first="Kadyn" last="Dawkins"] knocked down four 3-pointers including a timely 3-pointer with a minute left to put the Triad Select squad up by seven. He finished with 19 points in the game, showing off his continued development on the floor as a combo guard. [player_tooltip player_id="985980" first="Shad" last="Thomas"] and [player_tooltip player_id="838027" first="K.J." last="Garrett"] were two other top names to know. Thomas showed off his ability to stretch the floor and attack the rim with 12 points. Garrett showed off his quick first step with eight points. There’s a ton of unsigned senior prospects for colleges to keep an eye on, that’s for sure!
