I’ll take a geographic route in the second installment of standouts from the Prep Hoops Top 250 Expo. After covering Northern Michigan we’ll head down US 10 to the Tri Cities area. In particular the hoops hotbed of Flint.

1. [player_tooltip player_id="811109" first="Keyon" last="Menifield"] 6-2 2021 Flint Beecher The highest ranked 2021 participant and he lived up to that ranking. As I have written before an absolute wizard with the ball in his hand. It was obvious that he chose to be a distributor on this particular day. Will be the ring leader in a deep Beecher backcourt featuring [player_tooltip player_id="863936" first="Carmelo" last="Harris"] and 2022 Expo participant [player_tooltip player_id="1068129" first="Phoenix" last="Marble"]. Coming off a huge grassroots season with UTS Elite. Recently picked up his first division 1 offer from Cleveland St. I expect a huge senior campaign.

2. [player_tooltip player_id="814573" first="Aidan" last="Rubio"] 6-6 2022 Goodrich My first time seeing this prospect and he did not disappoint. A long fluid wing with a solid outside shot. Additionally very explosive in open court. Finishing well above the rim multiple times. Big time athlete who showed no signs of fatigue after playing in a football game Friday, a different expo on Saturday, and in the 250 expo on Sunday. Excellent football player who didn’t just participate. Passed for 257 yards and five touchdowns. Unlike teammate [player_tooltip player_id="811101" first="Tyson" last="Davis"] (Central Michigan) Rubio has announced that he is going to pursue basketball at the next level. Should have no shortage of suitors as his recruitment should take off if continues to play like he did Sunday.

3. [player_tooltip player_id="814676" first="Reed" last="Schilling"] 6-5 2021 Flushing A prototype for a small college stretch four. Schilling possesses a soft perimeter touch that he can extend out to three point range on a solid sturdy frame. Played well in the traditional four position on this day as he was teamed with a old school center in 2021 standout in [player_tooltip player_id="811132" first="Logan" last="Carson"] (Buchanan). It is obvious that he loves the game and plays the right way. Coming off a good summer with Oakland Elite. With that squad, if a gym was open he was playing. Was playing in his second showcase of the weekend. You get the picture. Has a desire to play that can’t be coached.

4. Donovan McDonald 6-6 2023 Croswell-Lexington (pictured at the top of the article) Well aware that I’m stretching the limits of the Flint metro area. But this is the type of talent that makes it worth it. Excellent post prospect from a program that is starting to churn out players in the Thumb. Had a standout summer playing the UTS Elite 2023. Consequently It was good to see his size translate in this setting players against older players. Moves very well with a thick sturdy frame. Continued to show a soft touch around the basket. At this point not the type of player who is going to make a lot of plays in the open court, but the potential is there and he is young. Won’t need to make too many plays in transition, as he will be playing on one of the best teams in Division 2 featuring slashers [player_tooltip player_id="1051074" first="Tyler" last="Johnson"] and [player_tooltip player_id="1051073" first="Hunter" last="Soper"] A lot of potential in this prospect.

5. Bryce O’Mara 6-6 2024 Grand Blanc First time seeing this young player and came away very impressed. Full disclosure I was anticipating including him in my 2024 column but his play Sunday forced my hand. Very mobile and bouncy post prospect. Good hands and knew what to do with the ball close to the basket. Heading into one the most talented and deep programs in the entire state. It will be interesting to see what level he plays at this year. Should be noted the Bobcats do have a hole in the middle with the graduation Connor Williams and [player_tooltip player_id="789769" first="Matai" last="Swain"]. Like Rubio appears to be a talented multi sport athlete. This will be an interesting prospect to watch in the next four years.
