With that in mind, here’s a look at some of the top guards in Region 8
Jesse White Jesse White 5'11" | PG White Shield | 2021 State ND , White Shield
White was an all-state selection as a junior, averaging 24 points, eight rebounds and eight assists for a White Shield that was in the mix in the Region 8 tournament. He’s a dynamic scorer from all three levels, and he’s an electric playmaker. He’s got the ability to dominate games like few other individual players in the region can.
Noah Fredrickson Noah Fredrickson 6'0" | SG Powers Lake | 2021 State ND , Powers Lake
Fredrickson took on primary playmaking responsibilities for the Ranchers last year and excelled, averaging better than 12 points and five assists. Powers Lake is returning an excellent core from a team that finished third in Region 8 last year and should be considered the favorite. Fredrickson has the ability to influence the game as much as any individual player – he’ll give them a good chance to win every time out.
Tyson Enget Tyson Enget 5'11" | PG Powers Lake-Burke Central | 2023 State ND , Powers Lake
Enget broke out last year during his freshman season, consistently providing double-figure scoring production and top-notch perimeter shooting. He’s not the biggest guy, but he’s got good strength already which shows up on the defensive end, as he’s good on and off the ball on that end of the floor. The Ranchers should expect to contend for a region championship this year in part because there’s an expectation that Enget takes his game to another level.
Bo Thingvold, Bowbell/Burke County
Thingvold was a bright spot for a Burke County team that suffered multiple three game losing streaks and a four game losing streak. The 6-foot-1 swingman was a consistent scorer for BC last year and can get it done in a variety of ways. He’s got the ability to take over the game on both ends of the floor for stretches and should be an all-region guy as a senior.
Lane Veach, Ray
Ray won 12 games a year ago, but is losing two all-region caliber performers. Veach emerged as a viable scorer on the wing in his junior season, showcasing solid shooting range and the ability to create for himself off the dribble. He’ll have even more opportunity to make plays in his senior year and with his size and length, he’s a good bet to put up points in bunches.
Connor Smith, Trenton
Smith has been a solid varsity regular each of the last two seasons and gives the Tigers a potential all-region guy at the point. He can get hot from the 3-point line, he can score from the mid-range and he can get into gaps and make plays.
