With that in mind, here’s a look at some of the top forwards in Region 5
Carter Englund Carter Englund 6'7" | PF Shiloh Christian | 2022 State ND , Shiloh Christian
Englund started as a sophomore for the Skyhawks and showed in limited bursts that he’s capable of being a legitimate difference-maker. The 6-foot-6 big man averaged better than nine points per game, showing solid touch around the basket along with the mobility and athleticism to not only score but defend at a high level.
AJ Ketterling, Turtle Lake-M-M
Ketterling is a rock-solid swingman who, at times, was the only viable offensive option for the Trojans last season. He’s got solid size and his ability to score from multiple levels makes him tough to defend when he gets it going. Turtle Lake won nine games last year and if the Trojans are going to compete in the region, Ketterling emerging as an all-region guywill be a big key.
Weston Kuhn, New Salem/Almont
Kuhn emerged as a double-double threat for the Holsteins last year, consistently providing complementary scoring for a team that lacked a lot of shot-creation while providing a legitimate anchor on the interior for one of the best defensive teams in the state. He might be the best big in the region this upcoming season.
Logan Becker, New Salem/Almont
Becker is a load in the paint and brings a physical presence for the Holsteins, pairing nicely with Kuhn to form a lethal duo in the paint. He’s a solid rim-runner who can bludgeon people on the offensive glass, and he’s dependable around the basket. His position defense is a huge asset as well, as he’s capable of essentially canceling out opposing post players on a regular basis.
Jace Friesz, Flasher
Friesz was a solid complementary player for the Bulldogs last season and will ascend into a more featured role as an upperclassman. He’s a solid athlete on the wing who can score from the 3-point line but is at his best going downhill to the rim. And he’s got the defensive versatility to check bigger or smaller guys.
