Player Comments from Coach Zach Edman
Layke Wold Layke Wold 5'10" | CG Chester Area | 2025 State SD , 5’10” G, Chester – “Very high IQ player who loves to make the extra pass. But is also one of the best shooters in the state who will put a lot of pressure on every level of a defense.“
Carter Tetzlaff Carter Tetzlaff 6'0" | SG West Central | 2025 State SD , 6’0” G, West Central – “Very shifty guard who can get to the rim and score off the dribble. Also a great shooter from 3. Very physical defender.“
Dawson Getz Dawson Getz 6'3" | SF Pierre | 2025 State SD , 6’3” SG/SF, Pierre – “Elite scorer who can produce at any level. Just as comfortable taking his defender off the dribble and scoring in the paint or off a pull-up, or backing him down and scoring on the block. Is also one of the best 3-point shooters in the state. Very good defender with his length and disrupts a lot of shots/passes.”
Preston McFayden Preston McFayden 6'2" | CG Wagner | 2025 State SD , 6’1” SG, Wagner – “Very physical guard, good shooter from the outside, and able to create his own shot at any time.“
Beau Leslie Beau Leslie 5'11" | SG Brandon Valley | 2025 State SD , 6’1” G/F, Brandon Valley – “All-around player. Elite defender and rebounder. Can guard any position 1-5, has a great ability to score at the rim against anyone and also has a good outside shot.“
Braxton Pravecek Braxton Pravecek 6'1" | SG Estelline | 2025 State SD , 6’1” G/F, Estelline – “Very versatile player, can play any position 1-4 and score at all 3 levels. Very active on defense and forces a lot of turnovers and steals with his physicality and presence.“
Myles Meyer Myles Meyer 6'7" | PF Parker | 2025 State SD , 6’7” C, Parker – “Big strong kid with some of the softest touch you’ll fine. Has great footwork in the post and works extremely hard to get in position to score. Also does a great job of screening on the perimeter and rolling to the block. Able to knock down a 15-footer (and occasional 3) off of screens with good consistency. Very physical presence on defense and is a great rebounder.“
Mason Ennis Mason Ennis 6'4" | SF Brandon Valley | 2025 State SD , 6’5” F, Brandon Valley – “Very athletic and physical forward, has great touch and footwork around the paint, and is able to score against defenders of any size. Very physical and athletic defender who can guard on the perimeter as well as in the post.“
Rane Kenzy Rane Kenzy 6'4" | SF Gregory | 2025 State SD , 6’4” F, Gregory – “Very physical forward who has a really good outside shot. He is able to generate a lot of open looks for his teammates and himself because of his ability to screen and roll.“
Noah Bearshield Noah Bearshield 6'1" | CG Gregory | 2025 State SD , 6’1” G, Gregory – “Very athletic guard who can score at all 3 levels. A very good shooter and able to attack and get to the rim with ease. A very good perimeter defender with his length and size. Underrated rebounder who’s able to get the team out in transition quickly.“
Q&A with Coach Edman
PHD: Why are you excited to coach this group?
“This is one of the most talented and hard-working teams I’ve had. They show up to practice every week ready to work hard and get better. From an on-court perspective, this is a very unselfish group that loves to share the ball on offense. We have guys who can shoot the ball at every position.“
PHD: What will be the strengths of your team?
“Rebounding is going to be a huge strength of ours. We have guys at every position who are great rebounders who love to work hard, and know that without rebounding and finishing possessions on the defensive end, they don’t get to get out in transition and run down the court and get open looks.“
PHD: What style of basketball will you play?
“We want to get out and run and score quickly out in transition off rebounds but also on their makes too. Once in the half court though we want to play a 5-Out or 4-Out + 1-In Motion style offense. With a lot of cutting and driving and screening. One of our strengths as a team is that we have so many ball handlers who can push the ball up the court we want to utilize that to beat teams down the court. And then use those same principles to attack the rim and either get layups or kick-outs for open shots.“
PHD: Who do you predict will be your top defender?
“ Beau Leslie Beau Leslie 5'11" | SG Brandon Valley | 2025 State SD is one of the toughest defenders I’ve ever seen at the high school level. Not only is he willing to put his body on the line and take more charges than anyone I’ve seen, he also wants to guard the other team’s best player regardless of what position that player is. In any given possession he is more than capable of picking a Guard up for the full 90 feet or holding his own with a Center who’s 6” taller than him on the block.“
PHD: What event/tournament are you looking forward to the most?
“The Battle of the Lakes in Minneapolis is always a great event with a lot of good competition. We also enjoy going down to Kansas City and seeing teams that we don’t normally get to compete against and seeing how we stack up.“
PHD: Do you see your team playing man, zone, or a mix of both?
“We will play 99% of our possessions of defense in a man-to-man coverage. If we do switch to zone it will be to throw a different look at an offense for a possession or two and even then we will be using our same man-man principles.“
PHD: What are your goals for this AAU/grassroots season?
“Our first goal for this season is to make every one of our players a better basketball player at the end of the summer than they were at the beginning. Sending them back to their High School teams with an improved skill level and higher Basketball IQ is very important. The second goal, which is just as important, is for the players who want to play at the Collegiate level to get in front of the right College Coaches who should be recruiting them.“
PHD: Who are some of the top shooters?
“We have so many great shooters on the team it’s tough to narrow it down. But I would say that Dawson Getz Dawson Getz 6'3" | SF Pierre | 2025 State SD , Layke Wold Layke Wold 5'10" | CG Chester Area | 2025 State SD , Braxton Pravecek Braxton Pravecek 6'1" | SG Estelline | 2025 State SD all stand out. The best part about those 3 is they are such good shooters at different positions. Layke is one of the best catch-and-shoot scorers in the state and doing it from the PG position. Dawson is so long and athletic he can catch and shoot as well as create his own shot. Braxton is a great catch-and-shoot guy as well who gets himself a lot of wide-open looks because of his off-ball movement and screening.“
BEST OF LUCK TO SACRED HOOPS!
