Last weekend session two of Details Training kicked off featuring a lot of known and under the radar talent alike from the Chicago area. PHI dove into the film and breaks down what we saw here! Check out Details Training Week 1 Standouts!

[player_tooltip player_id="821736" first="Blake" last="Peters"] (Evanston – 2021)

Peters is an elite shooter that is headed to Princeton next season. Probably the best pure shot maker in the state especially spotting up. He showed in this setting there is much more to his game beyond that. First thing we noticed was the added strength in his upper body. His ball handling has steadily tightened up throughout his high school career and now his passing feel is really coming along as he made sound decisions in both the half court and transition. Played on the ball quite a bit making quality reads in ball screen situations. Got to the rim a couple times and of course the jumper was wet! Going to be a star in the Ivy League.

[player_tooltip player_id="920948" first="Isaiah" last="Stafford"] (Bolingbrook – 2021)

Stafford might be the most underrated guard in the class. The Bolingbrook combo guard is a smooth athlete that can play both on and off the ball. He got to the rim multiple times for layups and was effective despite his shot not falling early. As it went on he dropped several of his patented pull ups with great elevation. Rebounds well and shows creativity as a distributor. Low-majors are missing out!

[player_tooltip player_id="920945" first="Jaehshon" last="Thomas"] (Whitney Young – 2021)

Thomas is an extremely underappreciated guard in the senior class. Currently setting with no D1 offers he is a no doubt low-major guy. Continues to shoot the ball well every single time out. Drilled threes behind screens and spotting up. The strong combo guard pushes in transition and finds teammates on the move in position to do damage. Most impressive play was when he got a steal and took it the other way for a dunk.

[player_tooltip player_id="995971" first="Ethan" last="Roberts"] (Hersey – 2021)

Roberts is a prospect we have heard a lot of buzz about this fall. Physically he definitely looks the part. At 6’4” he has plus positional size for the shooting guard position. Liked the overall athleticism he showed throughout the games. Crisp ball handler that sets his shot up well. Got off to a slow start, but then really hit his stride. Drilled several deep threes both off the catch and creating on his own.

[player_tooltip player_id="921072" first="Gary" last="Clay"] (Rich East - 2021)

Clay is a long and rangy guard that was very aggressive on the defensive end of the floor. Got several steals and used his length to disrupt. Offensively he is a solid shooter pulling up and can hit a spot up three as well. Rebounds pretty well for a guard.

Hakim Williams (Round Lake - 2021)

Williams is a 6’3” big bodied shooting guard that does most of his damage on the interior. Strong frame allows him to bully smaller guards on the block. Sealed well and garnered deep post position. Very good rebounder for a guard. Showed a smooth handle on the perimeter and was effective as a drive/kick threat dishing.

[player_tooltip player_id="920987" first="Jared" last="Pearson"] (Maine West - 2021)

Pearson is a prospect that caught our attention last year and we have been intrigued ever since. The good sized shooting guard is crafty with the ball in his hands. Lights out shooter spotting up from deep off the catch. He drilled them all weekend in a variety of games. He got loose in transition a few times and cuts away from the ball to the hoop for layups.

Nick Pierre (Round Lake - 2021)

New name here with this 6’3” big bodied guard. Contested shots on the perimeter defensively. On the offensive end he hit a couple of open threes.

[player_tooltip player_id="920978" first="Kyonte" last="Thomas"] (Bolingbrook – 2021)

Thomas is a monster on ball defender. Going to be a coaches dream at the D3 or NAIA level because of his intensity on that end. Offensively his ability to find guys on the move was what stood out to us. Crisp passer that also can put his head down and get to the rim with toughness despite his lack of ideal size.

Ben Randall (Hersey – 2021)

Randall impressed us with his plus size at 6’6” on the wing with a clean looking shooting stroke from three. Only hit one in the games we saw, but it is good mechanically. Has some bounce to his game throwing down a thunderous jam along with a sweet reverse layup. Artistic scorer off the bounce.

Garrett Burdin (Rochelle – 2021)

This was the breakout player of the first week. The Rochelle 6’2” two guard is a plus shooter from beyond the arc knocking them down on both days. He was straight money off the catch with a quick stroke. Also was good pulling up on his own. Runs the floor very hard and was rewarded consistently by his guards with buckets. Gritty wing that flies in for rebounds and is an adept passer in the open floor.

[player_tooltip player_id="921000" first="Evan" last="Ambrose"] (Stevenson – 2021)

Ambrose is a smaller guard, but can this kid play. A coach’s son he has a high basketball IQ and plays with flair. Shifty ball handler that has it on a string with a burst to the cup. Knock down pull up shooter from mid-range and is an excellent passer in the half court.

Ty Moenning (Mundelein - 2022)

This wing from Mundelein has a clean looking stroke with elevation off the floor. He had a nice spinning layup in the paint as well.

Lane McVicar (South Elgin – 2022)

This South Elgin 6’4” wing has nice size and can pass it to guys on the move. His passing was what stood out the most to us. Did hit one three as well.

[player_tooltip player_id="996065" first="David" last="Gieser"] (Fenwick – 2022)

Fenwick has a good one here for the next two years. The off guard is a tough kid that can really shoot it from three, but also does the dirty work as well flying in for rebounds as well as using his toughness on straight line takes.

[player_tooltip player_id="925232" first="Evan" last="Porto"] (Stevenson – 2022)

Porto showed a little bit of everything from his guard spot. Crafty scorer off the bounce and in transition finishing through defenders. His three point ball fell a few times spotting up and he is a decent passer as well.

Nate Boldt (Barrington – 2022)

This 6’8” four man flashed in the brief time we got to see him. Intriguing prospect with his size and athleticism. Took it coast to coast once and another time was fouled in transition. Also drilled a three.

Asher Jackson (Carmel – 2022)

Jackson is a big left handed combo guard at 6’3”. You can play him on or off the ball depending on who else is on the floor with him. Drilled a pair of deep threes including a sick step back. The left hand dominant guard also took his man to the hoop on a strong straight line blow by move.

Alex Enrgro (Loyola - 2023)

Engro opened our eyes a couple weeks back at the 3 on 3 event. Skilled wing that can shoot it from three. A lot of room to continue to fill out and diversify his game.

Nate Kwiencinski (Loyola – 2023)

This Loyola face up four is a skilled forward that is a sound three point shooter hitting them spotting up and off a dribble hand off. Runs the floor hard in transition and got in a couple times for nice rebounds in traffic.

[player_tooltip player_id="1056105" first="Sherod" last="Dent"] (Providence St. Mel – 2023)

Dent is a prospect that emerged in the 3 on 3 league several weeks back. Lefty has a projectable body with strength. He can hit a three on occasion, but seemed to settle for it too often in this setting. He is at his best when using his quickness and athleticism on the interior sealing his man off and finishing with bounce in the paint.

Caleb Jackson (Carmel – 2024)

Jackson is a small point guard, but the freshman does have long arms. Hit a couple threes with a push shot release. Played with confidence going against older guys.
