As was to be expected, Jack Chapman Jack Chapman 6'5" | CG Blue Valley Northwest | 2021 State KS and Alston Mason Alston Mason 6'2" | CG Blue Valley Northwest | 2021 State KS , the two Blue Valley Northwest teammates, were arguably the two best players on hand.
When it was all said and done, a few others stood out for their performance in the one-day jamboree (listed in alphabetical order).
Mason Belcher Mason Belcher 6'4" | PF Maize | 2022 State KS , Maize, 2022:
A 6-foot-6 versatile wing, Belcher moves with smooth athleticism through the lane to get to the hoop. He showed ability to pass well and work off another post player. He worked hard on the glass and never stopped hustling in the grueling one-day slate of games. He has skills out to the perimeter and can handle the ball full court.
Ben Fritz Ben Fritz 6'5" | PF Blue Valley Northwest | 2021 State KS , Blue Valley Northwest, 2021:
It was a dunk fest for Fritz. He took everything strong to the rack and displayed his power throughout the day. His combination of size and athleticism make him a nightmare for opposing defenders. Often they couldn’t do anything but get out of his way when he steamed like a freight train to the goal.
Tanner Hecht Tanner Hecht 6'5" | CG Wamego | 2021 State KS , Wamego, 2021:
There were plenty of good shooters on hand, but Hecht stood out. The 6-foot-5 senior has the height and athleticism to get his shot off at will, and he actually had to pass up a lot of good looks just to make sure his teammates were involved. But he rained in enough threes to be the difference in several of his team’s games. Of course Hecht isn’t just a shooter. He’s a springy athlete who works hard to rebound and defend and is a fine ball handler.
Nahcs Wahwassuck Nahcs Wahwassuck 6'5" | CG Royal Valley | 2022 State KS , Royal Valley, 2022:
It’s no surprise that the returning 3A all-stater would impress. But Wahwassuck was on fire from beyond the arc and seemed to have his way bringing the ball full court and finding open looks. He demonstrated his athleticism by going hard to the bucket, dunking or nearly dunking in traffic frequently. Though he missed a few of the dunk attempts, it was because he was trying to put it down through contact. He is a floor general who leads even when assigned a bunch of talented teammates he’s never met, as was the case for the one-day showcase.
Luke Williams Luke Williams 6'0" | PG Olathe South | 2021 State KS , Olathe South, 2021:
Williams doesn’t possess a powerful build or great height. But even at 5-foot-11, he can get to the goal and make plays all over the court. He’s not afraid of contact and gets fouled frequently on his dives to the bucket. His crossover is effective to create separation, and he effectively spots open shooters on the drive. Despite his size, he frequently collected rebounds and took the ball the length of the floor. His smooth style belies his quickness and athleticism.
