Mason Kibelkis Peotone 6’3
Mason had it rolling Friday night. He started the game with a deep three and that continued throughout the night as he made shot after shot from different spots on the court. A slender 6’3” Kibelkis plays very hard. Has a decent handle to get him out of trouble but his ability to make shots stood out above the rest. Mason competed on the defensive side by not backing down from anyone. He disrupted some passes by being in the right spot at time. Mason is another plus shooter to add to a deep group of talent.
Aaron Onesimus Schaumburg Christian School 6’4
Onesimus was a new face for me. A lanky wing who had a good feel for the game playing with a decent motor. Aaron didn’t have an array of moves with the ball he just got to his spots and was successful. He made his mark making mid-range shots and corner three pointers in the runs. Onesimus rebounded pretty well and has the ability to push the ball after getting rebounds. Small schools should check this kid out as he has a chance to be a steal if he continues to get better all around.
Zach Cleveland Zach Cleveland 6'8" | PF Normal West | 2022 State IL Normal Community 6’7
Cleveland was the best player in the gym and it wasn’t close. Very bouncy and active player who had his motor going at all times. Zach caused problems for everyone. He’s an excellent scorer who can get it done from all three levels. He was too physical for the big men inside. He showed great touch from 15 feet. On the perimeter he could beat you both ways. If someone closed out on him short he made shots. If they got too close he drove around the defender and dunked the ball. For most of the city players it was their first encounter with the central Illinois prospect. Needless to say he left with much respect from his city counterparts.
Dajuan Bates Dajuan Bates 6'1" | PG De La Salle | 2022 State IL De La Salle 6’1
DJ had a really good run on Friday. He mixed up his attack often if one thing didn’t work. Bates is a phenomenal scorer who plays with a lot of bounce and has a shifty handle that keeps defenders off guard. At times DJ did his best to mix in strong attacks and when to launch from long range. He connected on a few shots from deep but did most damage at the rim. DaJuan is still reaching his potential and will be worth a look this upcoming season.
Malachi Hawthorne Tinley Park 5’10
Hawthorne was fun to watch on Friday. A smaller guard who played at a good pace when he ran the court. Malachi showed he can either go create his own shot or set up teammates. In the runs he took what the defense gave him at times and scored first and then as soon as the defense would plug holes on his drives he made strong plays for guys to get easier shots and layups. Want to see him with his high school team to gauge what level would be a good first for him in college.
