With the summer over, it’s time to take a look at some of the commitments we have seen over the past few months. There’s sure to be more moving forward, but for now take a look at these 10 guys who have already pledged where they’ll be heading to college next year.

[player_tooltip player_id="697111" first="Angelo" last="Brizzi"] | 6’3” G | Highland School - Villanova Commit

Brizzi had a meteoric rise in recruitment after Villanova offered in early March, and at that point it seemed like a new power six school was offering him every day. Brizzi decided to stay loyal however and committed to Villanova earlier this summer, and on paper it seems like a terrific fit for both clubs. A smooth lefty that can shoot it out past NBA range off the bounce and plays with a great IQ and is extremely crafty, he brought up comparisons to current Nova star Colin Gillespie and with his size and great skillset he should fit perfectly into Jay Wright’s system.

[player_tooltip player_id="798696" first="Garrett" last="Johnson"] | 6’6” WF | Episcopal - Princeton Commit

Johnson was another guy whose recruitment was very heavy over the summer, as he had all sorts of mid major and high academic programs fighting for him throughout the summer. He decided to go the high academic route as he committed to Princeton, and has been very vocal about how he believes the Ivy League is one of the best mid major conferences in America. Johnson is a guy who has great size and length, is athletic around the rim and can shoot it from deep, and in the Ivy he’s a guy who could play on the wing and make shots but could also be a small ball stretch four that will cause mismatches.

[player_tooltip player_id="798691" first="Jason" last="Nelson"] | 5’10” PG | John Marshall - Richmond Commit

Despite his height, Nelson has proven that he’s one of the best point guards in the state regardless of class and is an absolute winner as he has two state championships to his name already and his John Marshall team is a clear favorite to repeat as Class 2 Champions. He cut his list to Vanderbilt and U of R midway through the summer, and decided he wanted to stay home and head to Richmond, a program that has had a lot of success with small guards over the years. Nelson is extremely polished and is a true floor general that can run the show, but he’s also a guy who’s tough as nails and is an extremely crafty scorer as well.

[player_tooltip player_id="687573" first="Kenard" last="Richardson"] | 6’3” G | Life Christian Academy - Iona Commit

Richardson committed early to Iona after winning a state championship with LCA and he’s a guy I’ve said for a long time will be a steal at whatever school he goes to. A hard-nosed, blue collar guard that comes at you on both ends, Richardson showed a lot of improvement on the ball as well as looking much more athletic over the past season. He’s a guy who can guard the other team’s best player, he can play on and off the basketball and he’s highly productive in a number of facets of the game.

[player_tooltip player_id="793098" first="Ikechi" last="Chantilou"] | 6’4” WF | Life Christian Academy - Iona Commit

Chantilou didn’t waste any time after his teammate committed and he announced he’ll be joining Richardson at Iona as well. A very talented and athletic wing, he’s a guy who makes a lot of things look effortless as he covers a lot of space and can get to the rim with ease where he has great hang time and body control around the rim where he’s able to finish through contact or get to the line. He’s also a versatile defender whose length and athleticism allow him to get deflections and steals as well as come help side to protect the rim.

[player_tooltip player_id="798682" first="Elvin" last="Edmonds"] | 6’2” G | Hopewell - Bucknell Commit

Edmonds has been one of the most productive guards in the Richmond area over the past few years and he’s heading to a great fit in the Patriot League with powerhouse Bucknell. Edmonds is a guy who isn’t the most dynamic or athletic player, but he’s highly skilled, plays with pace and has a high IQ and knows how to get his shots both on and off the basketball. He’s a gifted shooter with deep range and consistency, he makes the right play in almost every situation and he never gets too up or down throughout the game.

[player_tooltip player_id="957951" first="Kobe" last="Jerome"] | 6’3” G | Blue Ridge - UC Riverside Commit

The brother of former UVA star and current Phoenix Suns player Ty Jerome, Kobe made a name for himself last year as he helped Blue Ridge to another state championship and had a big summer with NJ Shoreshots as well. At 6’3”, Jerome is a big combo guard that is a great utility and glue guy with his high IQ and consistent playmaking and shooting ability as well. He’s a terrific passer who sees the floor and can thread the needle with both hands, he’s a knock down shooter from deep and he’s a good defender who can guard on the basketball and is great in help side where he’s one of the best charge takers in the state.

Greg Spurlock | 6’4” PG | Rock Ridge - Coppin State Commit

Coppin did their homework and found a very good under the radar guard in Spurlock who had a big season last year for a Rock Ridge team that many didn’t see or know about. At 6’4” Spurlock has great size at the lead guard position, and he’s a true point guard that uses his height to see over other guards and deliver passes to cutters and shooters with ease. He’s a good athlete that can get downhill and finish or create for others, he has great potential on the defensive end and he’s a good rebounder as well.

[player_tooltip player_id="798699" first="Andre" last="Speight"] | 6’3” WG | South County - Mount St. Mary’s Commit

Speight burst onto the scene as a sophomore at South County and was having a great year along with Class 6 POY [player_tooltip player_id="954023" first="William" last="Wilson"] who has graduated since and Speight should take over as the go-to guy for them. Speight’s commitment to the Mount seemingly came out of nowhere, but he’s a guy who should transition to them pretty easily with his high IQ and ability to shoot it from deep at a high clip. The lefty is a smooth scoring guard that thrives behind the arc and can create and make shots as well.

[player_tooltip player_id="957901" first="Tyler" last="Coleman"] | 6’6” F | Paul VI - Towson Commit

On a team as talented as PVI who has nationally ranked guard every year, it’s sometimes the role players and glue guys who go overlooked for them but Coleman was very important for them last year and got better throughout the year. The 6’6” hybrid forward is a guy who can play inside-out, can run the floor with his guards and he can guard multiple positions as well. If there’s one thing you know he’ll bring from day one it’s effort and a great work ethic, and he could turn into a steal at that level.
