With high school basketball pushed back in many states, various grassroots event have been taking place across the country. One of the biggest of these events, the Pangos All West Camp is taking place this weekend in Utah.

Some of the top high school players in the country are slated to participate in the event, including many from Southern California. I won’t be in attendance at the event, but I’ll be following along all weekend and compiling lists of all the SoCal players participating.

Here’s a look at some of the local SoCal players to watch for.

1. [player_tooltip player_id="748767" first="Isaac" last="Peralta"] – JSerra 2022

Peralta is a good scoring guard who plays bigger than his size. He’s a sneaky athletic player who is aggressive on the offensive end. Can shoot with consistency from both midrange and from the three-point line. He can play off ball and moves well both in transition and half-court sets. Solid ball-handler with improved decision making. He has all the tools to develop into a legit combo guard.

2. [player_tooltip player_id="748770" first="Dane" last="Persek"] – JSerra 2022

Dane is a versatile and fundamentally sound player. He’s a big man who can handle the ball at times and make plays going to the rim. He’s a strong rebounder and he has nice jump shot that extends out to the three-point line. He can also score in the post and he has solid footwork around the rim. Decent post defender.

3. [player_tooltip player_id="748769" first="Austin" last="Persek"] – JSerra 2022

Dane’s twin brother, Austin is also a versatile player. He can do a little bit of everything on the offensive end. He has shooting range all the way out to the three-point line. He is a decent ball-handler who can attack his defender off the dribble. He can get to the rim where he can finish strong. Gets out quickly in transition and can find his teammates on the break.

4. Dowon Kim – Beckman 2022

What really stands out about Kim is his ability to attack the rim. He’s got a quick first step and can blow past his defender into the paint. He has good body control and can finish over bigger defenders. Has a nice little floater. Good catch and shoot player from the three-point line. Good point guard with good vision; looks for his teammates on the break. Can drive and dish and drive and kick.

5. [player_tooltip player_id="680250" first="Jaden" last="Byers"] – Rancho Christian 2021

Byers is a player who plays with a ton of heart. He doesn’t crumble under pressure and he’s not afraid to take big shots. When I first saw him play, it was against Sierra Canyon and he was very impressive in a win. He’s a very good perimeter defender who has good hands. He might not be one of the biggest/tallest guards on the court, but that’s no matter. He has good body control and finishes well around the rim.
