With high school basketball pushed back in many states, various grassroots event have been taking place across the country. One of the biggest of these events, the Pangos All West Camp is taking place this weekend in Utah.

Some of the top high school players in the country are slated to participate in the event, including many from Southern California. I won’t be in attendance at the event, but I’ll be following along all weekend and compiling lists of all the SoCal players participating.

Here’s a look at some of the local SoCal players to watch for.

1. Reece Dixon-Waters – St Bernard 2021

Dixon-Waters is one of the top wing players in the SoCal area. He is a USC commit and has improved every time I’ve watched him play. He has good size for a wing and he can score in a variety of ways. He can put the ball on the floor and get to the rim. Good at drawing fouls and getting to the line. He can also shoot well from deep. Has added some playmaking to his game. Good rebounder and puts in effort on the defensive end.

2. [player_tooltip player_id="680211" first="TJ" last="Wainwright"] – Westchester 2021

Wainwright is probably one of the best shooters in his class. He has the potential to get hot from distance and is tough to stop once he gets it going. He can shoot off the dribble and can hit pull-up threes. His game is more than just a shooter though. He can create off the dribble and is able to get to the rim. Can finish well in traffic. Looks for his teammates and looks to make the right play.

3. [player_tooltip player_id="680224" first="Damion" last="McDowell"] – St Bernard 2021

McDowell is one of the hardest working players I’ve seen with a great motor, he never stops hustling. A Rice commit, he’s incredibly active in the paint and around the rim. He excels on the defensive end and can guard multiple positions. Decent shot blocker. He rebounds well and boxes out properly. Has added a nice midrange jumper to his game and can finish around the rim.

4. Corey Cofield – West Ranch 2021

Cofield has good size for a wing, he’s long and athletic and creates matchup problems for opposing perimeter defenders. He can get to the rim and he can finish strong with contact. He also has a good midrange shot. He’s a decent enough playmaker in transition capable of finding his teammates.

5. [player_tooltip player_id="972436" first="Jermaine" last="Rogers II"] – Ayala 2022

Rogers had a solid sophomore year and was named to the Palomares All-League second team. When watching film, Rogers was very impressive on the defensive end of the court. He has quick hands and contests shots well. He stays on his feet and keeps up with the player he’s guarding. Has the tools to be a lockdown defender. Offensively, he can shoot the ball and he gets out in transition as a finisher.
