We move on in our examination of the 2022 class to the wing spots. Here are the prospects that made the biggest leaps in the latest rankings at shooting guard and small forward!

Patrick Robinson (Oswego East)

Previous Ranking: #51
Current Ranking: #12

We made a leap of faith in Robinson in our last update. It was based purely on a highlight film that was primarily against sophomore competition during the high school season. We were not nearly high enough on the wing from Oswego East. Big and strong guard was dominant in stretches this summer for HIT. Attacks downhill with force and has a developing jumper. Rebounds well for his position as well.

[player_tooltip player_id="1048713" first="Kamryn" last="Thomas"] (Hillcrest)

Previous Ranking: NR
Current Ranking: #15

Thomas broke out this summer. He was behind all of the Hillcrest 2021 wings last year, but this 6’6” wing has D1 ability in his own right. Long and thin frame with a smooth offensive game. Takes it off the bounce from the perimeter in a couple dribbles. Feathery touch on his three point shot. Defensively he can check multiple spots and block a shot.

[player_tooltip player_id="863592" first="Darius" last="Duff"] (Lake Forest Academy)

Previous Ranking: #24
Current Ranking: #16

Duff has looked like a go to scorer in the Illinois Wolves 16U scrimmages that we watched. He is a silky smooth combo guard that leans toward a two. Very good perimeter jump shooter that knocked them down with regularity in all of the scrimmages. Slithery through traffic as well getting to the rim. Active defender that gets a couple steals a game.

[player_tooltip player_id="863598" first="Bobby" last="Durkin"] (Hinsdale South)

Previous Ranking: #27
Current Ranking: #17

Durkin has grown to 6’5” which makes this sniper an even more intriguing prospect. Plus size on the perimeter and can absolutely drill threes at a high rate. Also showed some growth handling it in the open floor during the Breakaway scrimmages.

[player_tooltip player_id="863619" first="Ben" last="VanderWal"] (Timothy Christian)

Previous Ranking: #34
Current Ranking: #18

Another Breakaway product here. VanderWal has quality size at 6’6” with plus athleticism and shooting ability. All of those were shown in our evals of him from the Breakaway scrimmages. Sound perimeter shooter that rises up over the defense with sound mechanics. Very good athlete that throws down dunks.

[player_tooltip player_id="925192" first="AaReyon" last="Munir-Jones"] (Tinley Park)

Previous Ranking: #47
Current Ranking: #24

While Casey got all the hype last year at Tinley Park we have liked the progress that this shooting guard has made in the last year. Creative perimeter game including a very nice looking jump shot. Can handle it and is a solid wing defender.

[player_tooltip player_id="1048714" first="Jordan" last="Streeter"] (Whitney Young)

Previous Ranking: NR
Current Ranking: #44

The 6’6” small forward from Whitney Young was an unknown player heading into the summer as he didn’t play on varsity last year, but is primed to breakout this upcoming season. Plus size and athleticism on the perimeter. Really good defender that can guard multiple spots. Offensively he is a problem in transition as a wing finisher running the floor hard. So explosive with his downhill game.

[player_tooltip player_id="1048715" first="Matt" last="Sommerville"] (Whitney Young)

Previous Ranking: NR
Current Ranking: #46

All around quality athlete that made an impact on both ends. He is quick to the offensive glass for put backs. Can make nice dishes off a live dribble. Feathery pull up mid-range game. Explosive athleticism shows on the defensive end. The Dolphins could have something in these two wings.

[player_tooltip player_id="1048716" first="Famious" last="French"] (Bloomington)

Previous Ranking: NR
Current Ranking: #49

Like the way this Bloomington 2022 small forward’s game is trending. Smooth athlete that can defend multiple positions, score off the bounce, and is a solid shooter from three.

[player_tooltip player_id="1048719" first="Cam" last="Lawin"] (Lane Tech)

Previous Ranking: NR
Current Ranking: #64

Lawin is a prospect that emerged this summer. Plus shooter with good size. More than just a shooter however he has some athletic pop with a crafty off the bounce game and some passing flair from his two guard spot.

[player_tooltip player_id="995982" first="Jeremiah" last="Jones"] (Marian Catholic)

Previous Ranking: #117
Current Ranking: #65

This Marian Catholic 6’3” shooting guard had a monster summer with Illinois Hoopstars. Rangy and athletic defensive player that can check either backcourt spot. He is a sound three point shooter off the catch and his athleticism plays well in transition.

[player_tooltip player_id="996082" first="David" last="Hubbard"] (St. Thomas More)

Previous Ranking: #120
Current Ranking: #66

Hubbard stands at 6’4” with natural scoring ability. He has an explosive first step getting to the cup. Sound perimeter shooter. Defensively he is a quality perimeter defender with active hands and moves his feet.
