Here are some of the top 16U Kansas guards from The Finale (in alphabetical order and with club and high school listed):
Tate Brown, Kansas Hoggs 16U, Manhattan:
The 6-foot guard really stepped up for the short-handed Hoggs. He’s a lefty who will vie for more playing time next year for the reloading Manhattan Indians. He is quick and sturdy physically, can handle the ball and shoot the 3-pointer. He can slice into the lane and gets off his left-handed shot around the rim.
Cory Chatmon, KC United 16U, Leavenworth:
A small, shifty ball handler who isn’t just about trying to score, Chatmon is a team-first point guard. He is a steady quarterback of the offense who can enter the lane and find his teammates. He has a slick crossover that helps him separate. He’s pesky on defense and has the quickness to allow him to gamble.
Chase Harris, B2B Elite 16U, Wichita Heights:
There were no guards more impressive in the 16U division than Harris. He is a relentless attacker of defenses with elite ball handling skills and a combination of size and quickness that allows him to take over games. He is flat out a scorer. He can hit from 3, in the midrange, on pull up jumpers, and forget about stopping him in the open floor. And he’s equally tough on defense. He has his hands on seemingly every pass, and he’ll turn an interception into a layup in the blink of an eye.
Mateo Hyman Mateo Hyman 6'2" | CG Seaman | 2022 State KS , Kansas Hoggs 16U, Seaman:
Hyman is building a reputation in northeast Kansas as one of the leading returners at point guard. He can really handle the ball and is steady and calm under pressure. He can shoot well enough and score enough to be dangerous, but he’s really at his best running an offense, setting up shooters and breaking down defenses in the open floor.
Zane Wech, KC United 16U, Washburn Rural:
Primarily a shooter, the 6-foot Wech is dangerous from anywhere on the court and moves without the ball to hunt opportunities. He is a tough battler in the lane and for rebounds. He is a fine ball handler, particularly as a compliment to a point man.
