Here are some of the top 15U Kansas posts from The Finale (in alphabetical order and with club and high school listed):
Cole Coonrod, SSA Hoops Elite White 15U, Manhattan:
Coonrod tends to gravitate to the perimeter for SSA White, but once in the Manhattan varsity system, he’ll probably be utilized more in the lane. He has a dangerous accuracy from the perimeter and the confidence to take the shot. Coonrod is a tough rebounder who is every bit of the 6-foot-4 he’s listed at. He is willing to mix it up in the lane. He has good hands and is a good passer, particularly helping to move the ball on the perimeter.
Gabriel Davis, Kansas 94×50 Elite 15U, Highland Park:
Davis is a big young man. He’s listed at 6-foot-6 and is large to boot. He is still developing his ball skills, but he can catch and score around the basket. He has a soft touch on a midrange jumper. He is a hard worker who is willing to battle in the post. He’s also willing to catch the ball on the perimeter and help get the offense moving. Developing his physical fitness and fundamental skills in the Highland Park program will take him a long ways over the next few years.
Joe Otting, SSA Black 15U, Hayden:
Otting moves surprisingly well for a big man. He is 6-foot-4 and solidly built, but he can run the floor, move through the lane, and maneuver to get shots off. He can catch on the move to score, and has a variety of post moves. The thing that sets him apart is probably his great hands and coordination for a big athlete.
Spencer Owens, Team KC – Kerr 15U, Blue Valley:
At 6-foot-2, Owens is an athletic wing/post player. He can catch in the post and make things happen, including kicking it back out to an open shooter or finding an open cutter. He also can put the ball on the floor and make things happen. He moves well in traffic and can run the floor. His versatility makes him more than just a post, but he excels in that role.
Jackson Swartz, TTB KS – Perez 15U, Chaparral:
The lanky 6-foot-4 Swartz brings a lot of energy to the post. He fights for every rebound and can get up and block shots. His hustle and willingness to do dirty work make him an ideal teammate. He has good hands and quickness to do more than just post up.
Cole Watson, SSA Black 15U, Lawrence:
A solidly-built 6-foot-4 rising sophomore, Watson excels at battling in traffic for rebounds. He’s strong and willing to muscle his way for position. He makes good passes from the high post, making it advantageous for SSA Black to have him and Otting on the floor at the same time. He also has the ability to handle the ball on the perimeter or in the open floor.
