August 3rd and 4th Justin Vargas and I put on the 4th annual Southwest Basketball Camp at the Arizona Sports Complex in Phx, AZ.

104 players from Arizona, California, New Mexico and Michigan battled it out. 12 teams with 8-9 players each.

Each team played 4 games with a possible All-Star game. The All-Star games lived up to the hype with many coaches walking away impressed with what they saw and 6 basketball offers were given out so far.

We will go back and look at each teams players.

Here is Team Washington:

Top-20 game:

[player_tooltip player_id="932155" first="Kaden" last="Luna"] (Tucson)

-He earned the "top dog" of the camp with his strong play. Not many tougher then he is with his strong upper body and natural strength and speed. He is tough to keep in front of you with his tight handle and his ability to score in traffic. He can euro his way plus jump stop and score it with his left or right hand. He has a polished mid-range jumper and he can make the 3. He is a dog on the ball defensively with his lateral quickness and toughness. He also can get by his defender and make a play once he gets into the lane.

[player_tooltip player_id="809728" first="Yahir" last="Garcia"] (Tucson)

-A long and lean shooting guard with good size. He has one of the faster releases in the class and brings deep range. He can create his own offense and he needs very little space or time to get his shot off. He makes good reads on the court and has sneaky athleticism to dunk the ball with a fast burst up to the rim. He has great from mid to the 3pt line and scores it in bunches.

Top-40 game:

Calvin Kapral C 6’9 2021 Woodside (CA)

-A true 5-man with good size and advanced post footwork. He has a polished right or left hand hook shot and he makes it look easy. He rebounds the ball well with his length and sturdy frame. He outlets the ball well and holds his ground deep inside to keep his position. He has a nice touch and he can put the ball on the floor somewhat. He moves decently in space for a 5-man.

Non-Senior All-Star game:

[player_tooltip player_id="827050" first="Brandon" last="Lee"] (CDS)

-A stronger guard who is tough and fearless. He takes the ball to the basket with a strong drive. The lefty is sneaky athletic and is very crafty off of the pick and roll. He has a mean pull-up from mid-range and he can hit the 3. He is a good passer and once he gets a head of steam, he will score it or get fouled.

Others:

[player_tooltip player_id="1024121" first="Chase" last="Pavey"] (Sunrise Mountain)

-A scoring guard who is slowly improving. He has a strong frame and he smartly changes speeds to get by his opponents to the cup. He is sneaky athletic and is improving his ability to create a shot for himself. He should have a good season for the Mustangs.

[player_tooltip player_id="1032867" first="Cole" last="Christensen"] (Glendale Prep Academy)

-A sharp shooter from deep. He is somewhat of a specialist and is best off the catch. He can pull-up off the dribble and hit from mid to the 3. He can slowly work on his shot selection but he is a decent driver and can get hot quickly.

[player_tooltip player_id="936766" first="Marcus" last="Jones"] (Sunrise Mountain)

-A long defensive minded combo guard with good open court speed. He is a natural slasher and is tough on the ball defensively. He is a capable 3pt shooter when left alone using a high arcing shot. He can add some strength and consistency to his overall game but he keeps improving every season.

[player_tooltip player_id="948184" first="Leo" last="Scott Jr"] (Parker)

-A sturdy framed wing can shoot it to the 3pt line. He has an intelligent game and he was a little conservative in this setting. He is really tough to grab rebounds out of his area and can score from inside and out. His HS team moves up to 3A and Scott will definitely be ready for the challenge.

[player_tooltip player_id="1032868" first="Drew" last="Owens"] (Mesquite)

-A burly face-up 4-man can shoot it to mid-range and in plus bang inside. He sets strong picks and can roll to the basket and score it. He can finish off tough layups and he will be much needed to bang inside the paint for the Wildcats.
