The Great 8 Summit Showdown had some lights out basketball on Saturday. Let’s take a look at our MVP’s and Under The Radar performers from yesterday.

17U

MVP

[player_tooltip player_id="814584" first="Deon" last="Hayes"] (PG, Storm 17u UA Rise, North Farmington)

When I made up my mind for this, I purposely didn’t seek out stats. On a team full of stars and big names, Hayes stood out to me. Don’t know what his stats were and it really doesn’t matter. When he was in the game, he made things go. It was a heartbeat for his team type of performance. Hayes was prolific with the ball and made intelligent decisions and smart passes. He showed the ability to finish at multiple levels as well as the ability to find teammates in scoring positions.

UNDER THE RADAR

[player_tooltip player_id="814589" first="Kentrell" last="Pullian"] (2021, CG, UTS Elite 17u Gold)

Can we all start to agree that Pullian is a very high level perimeter prospect? The young man is a terrific ball handler that beats his man to a spot. He showed range and consistency on his jumper.

[player_tooltip player_id="611485" first="Linden" last="Holder"] (2021, PG, MM Boyz, Warren De La Salle)

Same as Pullian, we need to start seeing Holder for what he is - A permier point guard. He’s an explosive scorer that can play at any pace. Holder has the ’it’ factor that coaches want leading their teams.

16U

MVP

[player_tooltip player_id="863922" first="Brady" last="Titus"] (2022, PG, UTS Elite 16u NY2LA, Tri-Unity Christian)

Titus was terrific on Saturday. He controlled the game as a point guard and seemingly manipulated the defense to get what he wanted on offense.

[player_tooltip player_id="863943" first="Mason" last="Woods"] (2022, G, UTS Elite 16u NY2LA, East Lansing)

Woods really made a statement at the Showdown. He scored, and did it with the utmost efficiency. Woods had good looks at the basket and delivered at a high percentage.

UNDER THE RADAR

[player_tooltip player_id="863993" first="Ethan" last="Crabtree"] (2022, F, Michigan Lightning, Coldwater)

Crabtree once again showed his underrated athleticism. He can play above the rim and defend multiple positions.

[player_tooltip player_id="863931" first="Ethan" last="Dunn"] (2022, C, East Lansing)

I just love watching him Dunn play. He has such soft hands and solid footwork to go along with a frame built for dominating the post.

16U

MVP

Andrew Turnquist (2023, F, REACH Legends, Lakeland)

I need to see Turnquist play way more often. He was borderline dominating throughout the event. Turnquist is definitely a prospect that will have a big impact in high school and grassroots seasons for the next few years.

UNDER THE RADAR

Anthony Sydnor (2023, G, UTS Elite 15u NY2LA, Muskegon)

Muskegon has a wealth of perimeter talent and Sydnor is a big part of that. I liked the way he handled the ball and didn’t waste dribbles.
