Here’s a look at some of the top Kansas posts in the 17U Division of the Midwest Grind Session (in alphabetical order and with club and high school listed):
Daniel Ferrer, Kansas Pray N Play, Sunrise:
Ferrer may not have been the most impressive post at the tournament, but he might have been the most impressive physical specimen. The 6-foot-8 man-child can run the floor, and once he’s on the offensive end, he can’t be pushed off the block. He has good hands and can shoot effective hooks. He requires an extra defender in the low post. He can simply overwhelm the opposition for offensive rebounds and score on put-backs.
Grant Ramsey, Wichita Padres, Collegiate:
The 6-foot-6 Ramsey is a tough customer in the post. He can catch and score while heavily guarded. He is strong when he posts up and has a variety of moves. He can face the basket and drive, and he’s not opposed to putting up a shot from beyond the arc.
Charles Snyder Charles Snyder 6'5" | PF Emporia | 2021 State KS , SSA Black, Emporia:
Snyder is one of the most versatile posts around and he gets it done with sheer grit and determination. There’s hardly a more intense player in the state. He earned third team 3A for Emporia, and he’s the primary big for SSA Black this summer. He is a facilitator of offense from the high post or on the perimeter. He can shoot from deep, drive and score, or move through the lane to catch and score. He runs the floor with determination and can catch and score on the run.
Joshua Symonette, Perry Ellis 34, Life Prep:
The 6-foot-6, long-armed athlete lurks around the lane looking to swat shots by anyone who dares to enter. He’s intimidating on defense and active on offense. He jumps over taller opponents. He can follow and score and kicks the ball out to open shooters.
Myles Thompson Myles Thompson 6'7" | SF Hutchinson | 2021 State KS , Kansas Kings, Hutchinson:
A solid 6-foot-7 post player, Thompson is strong in the post but also versatile. He runs and moves well. He can start the break by dribbling end to end or kicking out effective outlet passes. His excellent body control allows him to shoot pull-up jumpers on the run. On the offensive end, he shoots good fadeaway jumpers and can drive or shoot from the perimeter.
Cade Wilson, SSA White, Manhattan:
The 6-foot-3 Wilson will be needed by the Indians as they rebuild after graduating a host of seniors. He contests shots and defends aggressively. On offense he claims a spot in the lane and is tough to move. He is strong with the ball and scores around the goal.
