This region like some others did lose some players but are still very top heavy with talent.
Let’s more over to the 6A Southwest region predictions followed by the top players:
1. Sunnyslope
-Coach Portela did lose some stud seniors and two transferred out That being said he still has one of the better starting 5’s in the region and AIA.
2. Valley Vista
-Coach Isai has a younger talented core coming up. He still has some nice seniors to mix in with his youth.
3. Tolleson
-Coach Johnson just missed the playoffs last year and lost 9 seniors but played a deep group of freshman. Those rising sophs and one star rising senior will carry them.
4. Shadow Ridge
-Coach Bohon had a good season last year and made the playoffs. They did unfortunately lose 10 seniors but have some a nice core of rising juniors who will carry them.
5. Westview
-Coach Holmes is the brand new coach and comes into a situation where top scorer and region 1st team JJ McCain plus honorable mention R. Brownlee transferred and he lost 3 talented senior graduates. There are still players who have talent, but it is definitely a taller task.
6. Copper Canyon
-Coach Murphy’s team struggled last year at 4-24 overall and 0-10 in the region plus lost 5 seniors. He did have a nice soph group who will be rising juniors to lead a young core. They are probably a year away from competing at the top of the region.
Top sophs:
Aadem Isai Aadem Isai 6'1" | PG Valley Vista | 2023 State AZ (Valley Vista) (Pictured)
-One of the top scoring sophs in the region. He has deep volleyball line range and can also make plays for others. His IQ and shooting will be perfect next to their top seniors.
Clayton Werner Clayton Werner 6'0" | CG Valley Vista | 2023 State AZ (Valley Vista)
-The shooter is another soph that has real varsity experience. He is best off the catch from the stripe and can straight line drive to the basket. He plays really hard on every possession.
Terrell Doxie Terrell Doxie 6'0" | SG Cactus | 2023 State AZ (Valley Vista)
-An athletic wing who can defend. He is best at slashing to the basket but his shooting looked better in my last viewing of him.
Tarik Spencer CG 6’2 (Valley Vista)
-He is an extremely athletic guard that is fast and agile. He attacks the basket really well and he is a menace on defense. He can even throw it down on the break.
Ray Greer Ray Greer 5'9" | PG online | 2023 State AZ (Tolleson)
-‘Ray’ is a blur in the open court and is that pure PG. He is a capable 3pt shooter and can push the ball up the court quickly. Although undersized, he is tough on the ball defensively with quick feet and hands.
Vari Hogan CG 5’8 (Tolleson)
-A natural scorer from all 3 levels. The more he played last year on varsity, the more productive he was including 19 points vs Westview late in the season. He hit 13 3’s in his last 5 games and will look to continue that next season.
Lamont Carson F 6’2 (Tolleson)
-The tough inside player of the soph group for the Wolverines. He is another that improved as the season went on. He scored inside in the last 6 games but more importantly for them, he rebounded at a high rate. Which included four rebounds or more in the last 5 games and a game high 10 rebounds vs La Joya. His activity will be needed on a smaller team.
Ashton Vasquez 5’9 PG (Westview)
-A quick undersized guard can get into the lane and surprisingly finishes well despite his size. He can shoot it from the perimeter and he will be needed for depth.
