The COVID-19 pandemic has stopped the AAU season, but players have still been able to get workouts in. Peak Skills had a training session over the weekend, where some of the top players in the area worked out. The gym was filled with talent, but some players were able to rise above and truly stick out. Here are the top standouts from the Peak Skills Scouting Exposure and Workout.

[player_tooltip player_id="900297" first="Tazir" last="Cantey"], 6’0 PG Lindenwold 2021

Cantey had a tremendous workout session, proving that he is one of the top scorers in the Garden State. The 6’0 guard was unstoppable during the game session as he did whatever he wanted on offense. Cantey buried triples, attacked the rim and freed himself up with a flurry of moves. He did not just score the ball effectively as he also made several nice passes in transition. Cantey made First Team All-Group 1 in 2019-20 and should replicate the feat in 2020-21.

[player_tooltip player_id="900318" first="John" last="Horner"], 6’7 SF St. Augustine 2021

Horner participated in the earlier session and showed why he was one of the top players there. The 6’7 forward attacked the basket and was throwing down dunks in the transition drills. Horner showed off his range by knocking down numerous triples, but was also unafraid of putting the ball on the deck. He worked hard on the defensive end and allowed very few offensive rebounds. Horner is a skilled wing prospect who is ready to help St. Augustine repeat as Non-Public A South champions.

[player_tooltip player_id="850548" first="Freddie" last="Young"], 6’3 CG Trenton Catholic 2021

Young made plays throughout the session, solidifying his case as one of the top guards in South Jersey. The 6’3 guard pushed the ball in transition and several slick passes during the game. Young was able to get by his defender off the bounce and shot the ball with confidence. He played solid on-ball defense as he blocked a couple of shots in the 1-on-1 session and came away with several steals. Young will be tasked with leading the Iron Mikes’ attack next season, but he is more than ready for the challenge.

[player_tooltip player_id="1015331" first="Darius" last="Miles"], 6’11 PF/C Olympus Prep 2021

Miles had a good showing throughout the workout, showcasing his diverse skillset. The 6’11 big man knew how to get position down low and had a nice touch around the basket. Miles did not just score around the basket as he knocked down numerous jumpers from behind the arc. He handled the ball well in transition and was a force in the pick and roll game. Miles’ offensive ability makes him a strong addition to the Olympus Prep team.

[player_tooltip player_id="1013002" first="Xavier" last="Ernest"], 6’4 SG St. Augustine 2021

Ernest may have improved his stock more than any other player due to his versatility. The 6’4 lefty attacked the basket hard throughout the workout and used his strong frame to finish through traffic. Ernest showcased a nice handle and knocked down several jumpers when his defenders gave him space. He played tremendous defense, including holding his own down low against Miles despite giving up seven inches. Ernest is a tough guard prospect who should have a strong senior season for the Hermits.
