Historically, Non-Public B has been the toughest group in the Garden State. Programs like St. Anthony’s, the Patrick School and Roselle Catholic are all some of the top programs in New Jersey. The list of guards from Non-Public B is huge as players like Kyrie Irving, Bobby Hurley and Isaiah Briscoe have all competed for a sectional title. Here are the top under the radar guards in Non-Public B.

[player_tooltip player_id="1012992" first="Lorenzo" last="Washington"], 5’10 PG Patrick School 2021

[player_tooltip player_id="901943" first="Dionte" last="Johnson"] was also an option for this list, but the recently named team captain started for the Celtics last season. The Sacred Heart transfer is a lightning quick guard who can blow by his defender. Washington has a good handle and knows how to finish around the rim. He is a solid on-ball defender and uses his quick hands to get steals. Washington is a good addition to the Patrick School lineup as the Celtics looks to take home the Non-Public B North title.

[player_tooltip player_id="902756" first="Jadin" last="Collins"], PG Roselle Catholic 2023

The Lions have to replace [player_tooltip player_id="766099" first="CJ" last="Wilcher"], [player_tooltip player_id="766102" first="Niels" last="Lane"], [player_tooltip player_id="850351" first="Richie" last="Greaves"] and [player_tooltip player_id="896624" first="Ahmad" last="Robinson"] in the backcourt, but they return a solid 2023 duo in Collins and [player_tooltip player_id="850752" first="Simeon" last="Wilcher"]. The former is a tough on-ball defender who knows how to move his feet. Collins has a good handle and makes plays with the ball in his hands. He knows how to finish around the basket and is a solid passer. Wilcher and Collins are a talented guard duo as they are looking to help Roselle Catholic win its fourth straight Non-Public B North title.

[player_tooltip player_id="901961" first="Ryan" last="Petit"], 6’2 SG Rutgers Prep 2022

The Argonauts were one of the top teams in New Jersey last season and they should be again next season with Villanova commit [player_tooltip player_id="850499" first="Trey" last="Patterson"] and [player_tooltip player_id="850507" first="Noah" last="Harris"] coming back. Petit may not be the biggest name, but he provides head coach Matt Bloom with toughness and defense. The 6’2 lefty dives on the floor for loose balls, takes charges and plays with great instincts on the defensive end. Petit has a quick release on his shot, but can also attack the basket. Rutgers Prep should be the team to beat in Non-Public B South with Patterson, Harris and Petit coming back.

[player_tooltip player_id="927391" first="Martin" last="Anguelov"], 6’0 CG Wildwood Catholic Academy 2021

The Crusaders need to replace All-State performers [player_tooltip player_id="766090" first="Taj" last="Thweatt"] and [player_tooltip player_id="896442" first="Jahlil" last="White"]. Anguelov had a strong performance in the sectional title game and is ready to be the go-to scorer in 2020-21. The 6’0 guard is a knockdown shooter from behind the arc and can get hot from distance in a hurry. Anguelov is an underrated passer and is an instinctive defender. Wildwood Catholic Academy needs Anguelov to be the guy if the Crusaders want to repeat as sectional champions.

[player_tooltip player_id="901992" first="Braxton" last="Jones"], 5’10 PG Trenton Catholic 2022

VCU commit [player_tooltip player_id="850324" first="Jamir" last="Watkins"] powered Trenton Catholic throughout the season and the Iron Mikes will miss his presence. Jones had more of a complimentary role in 2019-20, but is ready for bigger things next season. The 5’10 guard has a good release on his shot and can get hot from deep quickly. Jones is not just a shooter as he is capable of putting the ball on the floor and scoring in the mid-range. His ability to score from the perimeter should give Trenton Catholic a jolt in 2020-21.

Other Players to Watch:

[player_tooltip player_id="900365" first="Jordan" last="Stafford"], 6’1 PG St. Joseph (Hammonton) 2021

Richie Machado, 6’1 CG Saddle River Day 2023

Maclolm Ely, 6’3 SG Hudson Catholic 2021

[player_tooltip player_id="931021" first="Darren" last="Tuck"], 6’4 SG Immaculata 2022

[player_tooltip player_id="902736" first="Isaac" last="Hester"], 6’0 PG Gill St. Bernard’s
