Council Bluffs, IA- Friday night saw the first night of action in the 2020 Midwest Live Showcase Event at the Iowa West Fieldhouse in Council Bluffs. Teams from eight different states descended upon the fieldhouse to kick off a weekend of top-notch competition. Here are some players who stood out to me throughout the evening as I watched various Nebraska based programs and Nebraska high school talent to start the weekend off.

[player_tooltip player_id="1013227" first="Devyn" last="Jones"] and [player_tooltip player_id="1052928" first="Ben" last="Boudreau"]- OSA National Zumbrennen 15U

OSA National Zumbrennen got their weekend off to a roaring start with 80-34 victory over Colorado Roughriders. Jones, a soon to be sophomore at Papillion-LaVista South lead OSA 15 points on 6-7 shooting from the field, along with going 3-4 from the free-throw line and bringing in 6 rebounds. He was all over the court. Boudreau has one of the best looking jump shots in the state of Nebraska. He finished with 13 points on 5-8 shooting, while also being a perfect 3-3 from three-point range.

Derrick Merwick- Hoffman’s Hoops Academy Red 17U

Though HHA Red fell 64-49 in their opening matchup against OSA Roubicek, Merwick was all over the court. The Elkhorn South senior to be finished with 17 points, 8 rebounds, and 2 steals in the game. Merwick never quit and was tenacious on both ends of the court throughout the game.

[player_tooltip player_id="1018810" first="Brandon" last="Orgilbold"]- OSA National Freeman 16U

In a back and forth affair, OSA National Freeman fell to Pluto Prospects 62-56, however, [player_tooltip player_id="1018810" first="Brandon" last="Orgilbold"] really stood out to me. He finished with 16 points on 6-8 shooting, made important free throws late, finishing 3-4 from the line, and overall just playing tough. Orgilbold will be a junior at Elkhorn North next year.

[player_tooltip player_id="890466" first="Jaren" last="Marshall"]- Iowa Barnstormers Gold 17U

Marshall’s totals from the Barnstormers’ matchup with Pluto Prospects won’t jump off the page as he finished with 8 points, 3 rebounds, and 2 assists, but Marshall is a crafty guard, who makes things happen with the ball in his hands. Quick off the dribble, and with a good looking stroke, Marshall is a name to watch throughout the summer and into next season.
