East Texas Baptist University held their third prospect camp of the month on Thursday afternoon. This one consisted primarily of guards and wings from the surrounding areas. Louisiana preps travelled from near and far to participate in the two hour camp. During this edition, we will look at what Louisiana players made an impression during the day in Marshall, Texas.

Brock Brown Brock Brown 5'11" | CG U-High | 2021 State LA (CG) | 5’11" | University Lab | 2021

Brock Brown Brock Brown 5'11" | CG U-High | 2021 State LA had a good day at ETBU.  For a small guard, he definitely showed that his game is more than being a playmaker for others.  Brown displayed versatility that not all guards had.  He could switch between the one and the two working well with others on the court.  Brown was always on balance when making fakes or driving to the lane.  His game showed a lot of maturity and was one of the players who worked hard on defense and offense.

Bryce Brown Bryce Brown 5'11" | CG University Lab | 2021 State LA (CG) | 6’0" | University Lab | 2021

Bryce was all over the floor during Thursday’s camp.  He proved that he could guard various types of players in a man-to-man situation.  Brown was also aggressive in trap situations which gave his team multiple turnovers.  He, like his brother, is fundamentally sound.  Bryce was successful setting up straight line drives to penetrate the lane.  He also initiated pick and roll/pick and pop situations well.  Brown is a smart guard who plays all out on each end.

Javaria Clark (CG) | 6’2" | Doyline | 2023 (pictured above)

"Juicy" Clark had his full game on display in front of the ETBU staff on Thursday.  While he did not attempt many jumpers on the day, he showed that he knows how to rebound and push the ball.  Clark dribbled with his head up and made several passes to teammates in scoring position.  When he was not showing his offensive prowess, Clark was playing good team defense causing turnovers on strips and deflections.  He may be best known as a shooter, Clark revealed that his game is more than just jumpers.

Jamari Markray Jamari Markray Jamari Markray 6'2" | SG Doyline | 2022 State LA (CG) | 6’1" | Doyline | 2022

Markray was the best defender during the ETBU camp.  While he played solid man-to-man, Markray showed that he is great help defender as well.  Markray has long arms and quick hands so steals came easy to him.  Jamari finished at the rim on several occassions with his left and right hand showing that he is very capable of finishing.  His combination of offense and defense was top notch on this day.  Doyline will reap the benefits of his growth.

Tymarkus Tate (W) | 6’3" | Homer | 2021

Tate was a player I was very interested in seeing.  He is a long and athletic guard/wing who does not mind shooting from distance.  During scrimmage play, Tate displayed a skill set that makes him attractive.  He can get up the floor and finish above the rim.  When he sits down and defends, he can really make it hard for guards or wings to make passes.  Going forward, Tate can be a hidden gem if he regularly shows the skill I viewed in spurts on yesterday.

Baylor Wells (CG) | 5’11" | Live Oak | 2021

Wells was one of the few consistent shooters during the prospect camp.  He can flat out shoot the ball and one can tell he works hard at preparation for his shoot.  He is also a crafty ball handler who is hard to rattle.  Wells took dribbled through a lot of contact and still got to his spots.  He knows how to move without the ball as well so keeping an eye on him is paramount.  With his ability to handle and shoot, a school can find room for a player like him.

The prospect camp at East Texas Baptist gave me a chance to see prospects I do not normally get to see.  The guards from Doyline and University Lab played like mature, seasoned players.  Brock Brown Brock Brown 5'11" | CG U-High | 2021 State LA and the Doyline backcourt of Clark and Markray were on the same scrimmage team.  They looked as if they had played together before and were in sync many times on both ends.  This group of guards represented the Boot well.  They pretty much showed that Louisiana has guards who can compete on a high level with guards from surrounding areas.
