Jalen Griffith Jalen Griffith 5'9" | PG Simeon | 2023 State IL (Simeon)
Griffith was as good in the second half as we have seen a player in a long time. The Simeon point guard dropped 40 points in the game including jaw dropping moves one after another. It all starts with his elite ball handling. Griffith has it on a string being able to manipulate defenders and get them off balance any time he wants. He uses it to set up his shot and create fouls. In the lane he won off the dribble with explosive takes that he finished with layups at the cup. Most impressive move might have been weaving through the defense going behind his back and putting it in. Then there was his three point shooting in this game! Wow! It was heat check one after another and he drilled them over and over again. His passing might actually be better than his scoring. He flashed that in this game making highlight reel passes. Defensively he plays with tenacity and has such quick hands that he strips his opponents on a regular basis.
Michael Ratliff (Thornwood)
For as good as Griffith was it was hard for anyone else to stand out. Ratliff did that in the first half. The Thronwood 6’2” lefty two guard was excellent attacking off the bounce and getting to the foul line. He converted a handful of and-1s with his body control at the cup. Also was able to turn defense into offense on a regular basis. Excited to see this 2023 develop over the next three years.
Kros Barrett (Bogan)
Barrett is a 6’’2” combo guard that is a tough scorer. Can hit a three when left open and got loose a couple times for layups.
Jacob Williams (Englewood STEM)
This 6’4” forward is a big bodied prospect that finished well around the hoop and was a tough defender. One play he got a steal for a layup and followed it up with a steal off the inbounds pass for an assist.
Glendale Miller (Englewood STEM)
Miller is another physically imposing forward from Englewood STEM. The 6’4” power forward did a lot of his damage getting on the offensive glass for second chance points.
