Continue ReadingSaturday saw another group of players migrate to Ornelas gymnasium for the latest prospect camp at East Texas Baptist. While only two players from the Boot were in attendance, there were still some shooters and playmakers in this latest group. We will exam who impressed the most during scrimmage play at ETBU.
Will Bagley Will Bagley 5'11" | SG Calvary Baptist | 2021 State LA (SG) / 5’11″ / Calvary Baptist / 2021
One of the more underrated players in the Boot played well on the both ends of the floor during scrimmage play. Whoever the point guard was, Bagley took on the challenge of defending them. He played them well and ended up having two breakaway steals and caused other turnovers. The form on his jumper was steady as Bagley drained a couple of spot ups and a pull up jumper. Playing both ends bids well for Bagley’s recruitment and his senior year.
Luke Carson (CG) / 5’10″ / Trinity Christian Academy / 2021
Carson was most well-rounded player on the floor during scrimmage play on Saturday. He floated between both guard positions and played well in both roles. He is a very heady guard who knows when to push the ball and take advantage of early offense or mismatches. Carson can shoot the ball from distance by either the spot up or one dribble pull up. He also knows how to finish at the rim using it as a shield at times. His acumen makes him a very attractive prospect.
Jordan Hudgins (F) / 6’6″ / Wylie High / 2022
The Wylie High forward displayed high energy effort on the offensive and defensive boards during each scrimmage in which he participated. Hudgins knows how to run to the front of the rim and had a couple of athletic finishes around the goal. He is a player that defenders have to block out because he does not stop going after the ball. He is a rising junior so he still has room for his game to develop. If it does, Hudgins might be a sleeper at all divisions.
Devin Myers (SG/W) / 6’4″ / Huntington / 2023
When I looked at the roster and I saw a Huntington player, I automatically knew the kid had to be tall and talented. Myers is a rising sophomore who may be a future prep star. He does not mind guarding 1-5 and sticks his nose in the mix when it comes to rebounding. Myers also has a very nice behind-the-back dribble pull up that he can make consistently. With his skill set and the level of play during the scrimmage, I can see him contributing this season.
Jayson Tuck (PG) / 5’9″ / Marshall High / 2021
Tuck was a blur once he hit the court during scrimmage play. He is a very difficult person to guard due to his ultra quick foot speed. Tuck can change ends quickly and finish at the cup as he did on a few occassions during play time. He is a very willing passer and tries to make the correct pass in a break situation. On defense, he can hound guards his size into mistakes. Marshall should love his style of play going into his senior campaign.
North Louisiana and north Texas were represented well at the prospect camp held by ETBU. With basketball season still up in the air due to Covid, it was good to see players in the gym giving 10 percent. While East Texas Baptist may have another prospect day coming, LSU-Eunice will have one coming up July 25th from 11-1 at their home gym.
