Continue ReadingAs a scout, I am pretty confident when I say that I firmly believe that the 757 area has some of the best guard play in the nation. Several backcourts in the area have D1 talent at both guard slots. This series will highlight the projected elite backcourts in the area as well as why these duos are must see for colleges.
4. Salem
Projected PG: Cam Kearney- 6’6 2022
Summary: Salem will potentially possess by far the biggest backcourt in the area. I like the idea of running Kearney a majority of the time at the point. At 6’6, Kearney can dominate his smaller matchups and is athletic enough to check the smaller, quick guards. Kearney possesses natural instincts as a player and is one of the more intriguing prospects in his class.
Projected SG: Jaden Cooper- 6’4 2022
Summary: Jaden Cooper should be an excellent running mate for someone like Kearney. With his natural scoring ability and his quick jumper, Cooper gives Kearney some serious relief in the scoring department. Cooper could suprise many next season as he has grown this summer and is becoming more and more athletic.
5. Kempsville
Projected PG: Eli White- 5’9 2022
Summary: White is one of the best shooting lead guards in the 757. Quick and smooth, White can easily create for himself as well as others. Look for White to be one of the more offensively talented guards in the area next season.
Projected SG:
Dominic Stanford

VA
– 6’4 2021
Summary: Stanford will be in contention for player of the year next year. Stanford is closer to 6’5 rather than 6’3 and he uses his size to pulverize smaller guards. The athletic wing is a monster when going uptempo, using his athleticism and size to finish lobs and easy dunks. As long as he shows up on defense, Stanford will be one of the best 2 way prospects in the 757 next season.
6. Nansemond Suffolk Academy
Projected PG: George Pettaway- 6’1 2022
Summary: Pettaway is likely the fastest point guard in the state. A two sport legitimate star, Pettaway is an underrated lead guard. Pettaway uses his physical tools to put pressure on the defense, either getting himself to the cup or passing out to his shooters.
Projected SG: Grant Lopez- 5’11 2021
Summary: Although he projects as a point guard at the next level, Lopez is just as dangerous off the ball given his effecient shooting numbers. Statistically, Lopez was one of the best from deep in the area last season. After losing their leading scorer, Lopez will have a chance to raise his numbers accordingly.
