Don’t forget however, there are very often surprises that turn up farther down the prospect rankings. I found 5 players from the class of 2022, that aren’t ranked in the top 10, that D1’s may want to watch or keep an eye on.
Max Burton Max Burton 6'10" | SF Williamston | 2022 State MI (2022, SF, Wlliamston)
Prep Hoops Michigan Ranking: #23
Burton has all the intangibles. His height and length on the wing is intriguing in itself. But look beyond that and watch his feet. He moves fluidly in a straight line on offense, and can slide his feet horizontally on defense. Burton could have a VERY high ceiling.
Treyvon Lewis Treyvon Lewis 6'5" | SF Ferndale | 2022 State MI (2022, G/F, Ferndale)
Prep Hoops Michigan Ranking: #14
Lewis looked really strong last weekend in grassroots action. We could have seen that the elite athlete has become an elite basketball player. Lewis played an attacking, yet intelligent, style on the offensive end. He was able to create with the ball, but didn’t push too hard if he didn’t get a clean look.
Charles Turner Charles Turner 6'5" | CG University Of Detroit Jesuit And Academy | 2022 State MI (2021, CG, UD Jesuit)
Prep Hoops Michigan Ranking: #12
Turner is a very impressive prospect. He seems very strong with the ball, like his hands are a protective covering for it. Turner plays a high IQ game and can contribute in many different ways, always creating value for his team.
Derrick Voltz Derrick Voltz 6'4" | CG Carrollton | 2022 State MI (2021, CG, Carrollton)
Prep Hoops Michigan Ranking: #17
Voltz has top 10 potential. He can play at any pace and is tough in transition. If there’s no lane to the bucket, he will settle back for a 3 off a kickout. Voltz has in the gym range, and when he gets hot, it spells trouble for his opponent.
Alex Watters Alex Watters 6'1" | CG Lansing Catholic | 2022 State MI (2021, CG, Lansing Catholic)
Prep Hoops Michigan Ranking: #19
His school may be small, but his game is big. Watters is extremely underrrated as a prospect and I believe his ceiling is very tall. He’s extremely efficient as a player, recognizing the difference between good and bad looks at the rim. Watters can play on or off the ball, at the very least making him a nice secondary ball handler.
