Notoriously, the Boise valley has been a hotbed for top-level basketball in the state of Idaho and that will be the case once again with this crop of guards from the 2021 class. All of these players have tons of high level playing experience and have played alongside some of the best players the state of Idaho has seen in recent years. With that being said, it is now their time to shine and keep their teams amongst the most competitive in the state.
Jaden Hansen Jaden Hansen 6'1" | PG Rocky Mountain | 2021 State ID – 6’1 PG Rocky Mountain
Hansen, who is the second ranked overall player in the Prep Hoops 2021 rankings, is poised for a breakout senior campaign. While Rocky Mountain has lost some big name players such as Townsend Tripple Townsend Tripple 6'7" | PF Rocky Mountain | 2020 State ID , Briggs Ranstrom Briggs Ranstrom 6'6" | SF Rocky Mountain | 2020 State ID , and Cooper Frith Cooper Frith 5'10" | PG Rocky Mountain | 2020 State ID , Hansen will bring his experience and skill set to the forefront for the Grizzlies. Hansen is the definition of a true point guard, as he has excellent court vision, can make passes from anywhere on the court, and helps his teammates to get multiple transition buckets. He is very poised in the open floor and off the dribble, the confidence he has with the ball in his hand is very apparent anytime you watch him. On the defensive side of the ball, Hansen has very active hands and blocks a lot of shots around the rim for a guard. He is one of those players who always seems to be in the right spot on defense and has the ability to harass opposing point guards with his ball pressure. Hansen has the size, skill set, and leadership ability to be an outstanding college player.
Luke Hoetker Luke Hoetker 6'0" | PG Borah | 2021 State ID – 5’11 PG Borah
Hoetker, in his senior year, will be tasked with doing something no one else on this list can do and that is to become a back-to-back state champion. Hoetker, much like Hansen, is a pure point guard who is excellent with the ball in his hand. He is a fantastic ball handler who can get to the hoop off the dribble with either hand, and is a strong finisher for being a bit undersized down in the paint. On a Borah team that was loaded with talent, it was Hoetker who was often the one who kept the offense flowing. He is a real threat in the pick and roll due to his excellent court vision, along with a quick, smooth pull up jumper if the defender sags off. He is also a huge threat from the perimeter as he has excellent touch on his passes into the post, the ability to drive by the defender for a layup, and a great shooting stroke that he will show off from anywhere on the court. Defensively, Hoetker has a high motor and great hands; what he lacks in size, he makes up for in quickness and awareness on the floor. With the offensive skillset that Hoetker brings, he is a very intriguing college prospect from the 2021 class.
McKay Anderson McKay Anderson 6'0" | PG Meridian | 2021 State ID – 6’0 PG Meridian
Third and final on this list, Anderson is the player with the most room to grow. Anderson is much more of a pass first guard, and with the help of his teammate and fellow 2021 class member, Brody Rowbury Brody Rowbury 6'11" | C Meridian | 2021 State ID , the pick and roll works very well in their favors. He is very much a team-first guy, and Meridian has enough talent around him to where he will really be able to showcase his ability to facilitate the ball. Anderson could very well showcase his scoring numbers as well in his senior campaign as the Warriors will have to fill the scoring hole that will be left behind by last year’s leading scorer, Donovan Sanor Donovan Sanor 6'4" | SG Meridian | 2020 State ID . Nonetheless, Anderson will showcase his ability to be a floor general as he projects to have a big senior year.
The Boise area has always been plentiful with basketball talent, and the class of 2021 is no different. While there is a lot of talent across the valley, the players above are floor leaders every coach is looking for in their point guard, and all three will be intriguing to watch in their senior season. The Boise valley will once again be very competitive due to the talent that is distributed throughout the area.
