Pangos Best of SoCal 2022 Game 1

<p>With grassroots basketball events getting underway across the country, California is also beginning to hold some events. This past Saturday, Long Beach, CA played host to the Pangos Best of SoCal Showcase.</p> <p>The event included multiple showcase games from some of the top SoCal talent from each class (2021, 2022, 2023, 2024) and even a 2025 game. Here’s some of the top talent that I saw from the first 2022 game.</p> <p><strong>1. Akoye Hudson – St. Anthony</strong></p> <p>Hudson has all the makings of being a deadly wing scorer. He showed off his perimeter skill and his penchant for scoring. He plays under control and is a good ball-handler who can makes plays off the dribble. He reads the defense and he’s patient. Strong around the rim with good body control. He can absorb contact and finish strong over the defense. Can shoot from the outside.</p> <p><strong>2. [player_tooltip player_id="748770" first="Dane" last="Persek"] – JSerra</strong></p> <p>Dane is a versatile and fundamentally sound player. He’s a big man who can handle the ball at times and make plays going to the rim. He’s a strong rebounder and he has nice jump shot that extends out to the three-point line. He can also score in the post and he has solid footwork around the rim. Decent post defender.</p> <p><strong>3. [player_tooltip player_id="748769" first="Austin" last="Persek"] – JSerra</strong></p> <p>Dane’s twin brother, Austin is also a versatile player. He can do a little bit of everything on the offensive end. He has shooting range all the way out to the three-point line. He is a decent ball-handler who can attack his defender off the dribble. He can get to the rim where he can finish strong. Gets out quickly in transition and can find his teammates on the break.</p> <p><strong>4. [player_tooltip player_id="972435" first="Gabriel" last="Cummings"] – Long Beach Poly</strong></p> <p>Cummings was one of the top scorers in this game and his shooting ability was a big reason why. The lefty shooters is becoming one of the top shooters in the Southern California area. He has a quick release and can be near automatic when he is open. Does well spotting up beyond the arc. He also is looking to expand his scoring repertoire as well by being a threat to score with the ball in his hands off the dribble.</p>
