The NCHSAA 1A State Championship was a matchup that pretty much everyone across the state was looking forward to. Both teams have achieved a high amount of success over the last few years and both teams have numerous college prospects.

Future Teammmates

Queens University fans would have definitely wanted to see this matchup as two future Royals would be on the floor. Although they have different roles for their teams, both are not only talented young men but high character youngsters off the court.

Winston Salem Prep Senior PG [player_tooltip player_id="833165" first="Stephen" last="Minor"]: He brings plenty of the attributes that you want from a PG, first and foremost he’s a natural leader , he’s vocal and is what you would call a coach on the floor. Scoring, facilitating and defending are all things he does well, he does a nice job of getting his teammates involved but also scoring when he is called on.

Henderson Collegiate Senior Guard [player_tooltip player_id="770282" first="Kalib" last="Matthews"]: What is there not to like about Mr. Matthews? He can play multiple positions, being a play maker at the PG spot or scoring the ball at a high level as a SG. His defense is one of the attributes that sets him apart from many, he understand how to use his long wingspan to come up with steals and deflections.

Prospects On The Rise

At 16 Points per game, he’s the leading scorer on the squad but he’s a natural scorer so going for 25-30 points during any given game is not out of the ordinary.

Winston Salem Prep Junior Wing Anthony Sellers: He’s 6’6 with a long wingspan and the ability to play multiple positions which has caught the attention of D1 coaches. You always need a versatile player in big games and that’s exactly what he brings to the table for WSP.

This game would have gone to the wire for sure as both teams are well coached and play with enthusiasm. Henderson Collegiate played one of the toughest non conference schedules in the state so they are a bit more battle tested but Winston Salem Prep has its own share of battles.
