With that, some players fall under the wayside. Here are the top point guards/floor generals that are outside of the Top-50.
Braydon Smith Braydon Smith 5'9" | PG Fountain Fort-Carson | 2022 State CO – Fountain Fort-Carson
Smith is a guard that was behind some outstanding guards over at Fountain Fort-Carson this season but got the experience in and showed that he can contribute when called upon. Smith is a young guard that plays with confidence. He pushes the pace, controls the tempo, and takes care of the ball. He scores at times, but more so fit in his role this season. Next year it will be about coming out of his bubble. He will have a chance to step up more, and he should focus on passing this offseason. He will have a few good players around him, and it is his job to get them involved.
Jaelyn Robinson Jaelyn Robinson 5'10" | CG William J Palmer | 2022 State CO – Palmer
Jaelyn Robinson Jaelyn Robinson 5'10" | CG William J Palmer | 2022 State CO is a young player to know, and with how he played in his sophomore season, it is about showing that he could do it again. If he does, he will undoubtedly rise and be a player to watch moving forward as he is a bucket that rebounds well and will be best suited as a scoring threat that can get others involved. As a sophomore, Robinson averaged 7.8 points and 3.5 rebounds a game. He also showed flashes of being able to pass and hit his teammates with rhythm shots, and he has to do more of that. He has a career-high of 22 points against Coronado, and if he works on his outside jumper as well as court awareness, the sky is the limit.
Jaylen Johnson – DSST: Green Valley
Small and speedy guard that contributed significantly this season and will inevitably rise. This would have been a great summer for him to get a name for himself, but it looks like it will come later. Johnson had a balanced season and showed that he could do a bit of everything. He put up 7.1 points, just under three rebounds, and three steals a game. While he was able to score and defend, what separated him was the ability to alter the game with his vision. Johnson dished out 3.7 assists a game and saw his confidence grow as the season progressed. He is a player to watch and one of the best guards not in the top-50 that will most likely enter the top-50 shortly.
Chris Watkins Chris Watkins 5'11" | CG Rangeview | 2022 State CO – Rangeview
Watkins is a young guard that I got a chance to see on JV this season, and I am willing to say, the future is bright for him. He got all that he wanted in JV games, and if he was not setting teammates up with no-look passes, he was scoring the ball with relative ease. Watkins is one of the best ball-handlers in the class and also has excellent body control. He has a great change of pace, court awareness, and is a high IQ guard with upside. Excited to see him on varsity next season as I feel that he will surely make an impact once he gets the chance.
Keenan Starks Keenan Starks 6'2" | PF Hinkley | 2022 State CO – Hinkley
Starks is a quick guard that gets to his spots and makes opposing guards pay. He played JV this season, and his speed was a bit too much for other guards, as he also proves to be a tenacious defender that refuses to be scored on. He can stay in front of his defender, possesses court awareness to find the open man, and also attacks the rim with reckless abandon. Once he starts to get a better feel for the game and understands how to slow the game down, he will begin to excel. Starks steps into a situation where he will see more varsity playing time this season, so hopefully, he is working on his game daily and getting ready as he is a player that can certainly rise with a big year.
