Here, Prep Hoops Kansas takes a look at several wing prospects coming off a strong junior season who are poised to crack the rankings in the future.
Andrew Ridenour, 6’1, G/F, 2021, Cimarron
Also a football standout, Ridenour is an athletic player who has in-game quickness and the ability to impact the game on both sides of the floor. He is a strong rebounder and a second chance scorer who can also square up and make plays on his own. He’s an unselfish player and looks to pass the ball and can test shots and can also force turnovers and make plays in full Court settings. He averaged 11.5 points, 1.3 assists, seven rebounds, 1.1 steals per game and point seven blocks while earning 3A All-State honorable mention honors.
Isaac Salmans, 6’3, G/F, 2021, Hodgeman County
Also a standout football prospect, Salmans is a smart player with good vision and the ability to impact a game on both ends of the floor. He has good size and can play inside the paint given his physicality in Forest. He has a strong game off the ball but can also create some and extend plays on the arc. A 6’3 combo forward who’s athleticism and toughness sets him apart from the competition. Salmans earned 1A All-State honorable mention for his play last season.
Andrew Schields, 6’2, G/F, 2021, Cheylin
Another football standout who makes a large splash on the hardwood. Schields is an impressive all-around player on both sides of the floor who can contribute as a rebounder. He is physical and has strong hands and looks to put up second-chance buckets and kick-off fastbreak opportunities. He averaged 16.5 points, eight rebounds, 1.5 assists and 1.8 steals per game and earned 1A All-State honorable mention honors for his play.
Jackson Schulte, 6’1, G/F, 2021, TMP-Marian
A flexible player who can slip inside and score with either hand but also has a smooth shot and a lot of confidence. A 3A All-State honorable mention, Schulte runs the floor well and can make plays and force his way to the basket. He can defend the ball and run the show if he needs to but plays well off the ball and can make scrappy plays look easy. An active player on both ends.
Lance Walker, 6’4, SG, 2021, Ulysses
Walker is a strong option who can knock down shots and play physical inside. He has great size at 6’4 and looks to defend the ball and to the way passes in can get up and make place in transition around the basket. He defends well and looks to contest shots and creates plays for himself. A 4A All-State honorable mention performer his junior year.
Chase Wiebe, 6’1, G, 2021, Berean Academy (third team 1A)
A 1A third-team All-State performer, Wiebe can make plays both with and without the ball. He can operate on the wing or at a scoring position and looks to move inside and score high percentage shots but can also stretch the floor with his outside shooting. He’s tough on defense and can rebound is an unselfish player who looks to pass and move the ball. A quick player who does a little bit of everything.
